This add-on features a detailed rendition of the United Airlines Boeing 767-300 painted in the Star Alliance motif. It is developed by AI Aardvark and meticulously repainted by Craig Crawley. This well-known wide-body twinjet, originally introduced by Boeing for medium to long-haul routes, blends reliability with comfortable passenger capacity. The Star Alliance branding, recognized across multiple global carriers, brings additional authenticity to this aircraft mod.
United Airlines Star Alliance Exterior and Model Features

Visual fidelity is a key focus of this aircraft’s design. The AI Aardvark modeling ensures a highly recognizable fuselage shape that looks impressive both at the gate and on approach. Users familiar with modern traffic add-ons will appreciate how the Star Alliance artwork seamlessly integrates onto the 767-300’s exterior, reflecting one of the largest airline alliances worldwide.
Installation and Configuration Details
- Default FDE: This package uses flight dynamics tailored for FS2004 out of the box. These values dictate engine thrust, lift, and control responsiveness in an AI environment.
- Switching to FS2002 FDE: To transition from the FS2004 flight dynamics, back up the original
aircraft.cfg
and.air
files, then replace them with the alternatives from the provided FS2002 FDE folder. Special acknowledgment goes to Koji (Mr Hiro) Tanaka, who contributed these FS2002 parameters.
Reflective Surface Option
By default, this aircraft employs a non-reflective model. If a reflective look is preferred, locate the line model=no_refl
in the aircraft.cfg
and change it to model=reflective
. Although the bundled texture does not include a reflection channel, this switch toggles the model’s reflective capability for those who wish to experiment.
Design Philosophy for AI Operations
This Boeing 767-300 is primarily designed to function smoothly as part of AI traffic routines. The core objective is to minimize system load, even when multiple instances are active. This approach is especially valuable for those who rely on extensive traffic scenarios, as it allows the simulator to maintain consistent performance.
Levels of Detail (LOD)
The model utilizes 10 distinct LODs (levels of detail). Each step reduces polygon count as the aircraft’s distance from the viewer increases, helping ensure that frame rates remain steady, regardless of how many of these 767-300s appear.
AI Flight Dynamics Considerations
- Compromise in Behavior
- Flight dynamics for AI traffic represent a balancing act—smooth takeoffs can sometimes conflict with natural landings. To accommodate busy airport schedules, this aircraft touches down near the runway threshold and exits rapidly, enabling efficient traffic flow.
- Adjusting Landings
- If you desire more float upon touchdown, modify lift and drag parameters—specifically cruise_lift, parasite_drag, and induced_drag—in the
aircraft.cfg
file. This fine-tuning helps mimic a softer, more prolonged landing roll.
All credit for the model construction goes to the AI Aardvark team, while the repaint is expertly accomplished by Craig Crawley. This freeware aircraft brings together the practicality required in AI traffic planning and the distinctive Star Alliance visual scheme that enthusiasts know and appreciate.
