This freeware repaint showcases the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana (Mexican Air Force) variant of Lockheed’s T-33A “Shooting Star” trainer for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It represents a high-fidelity texture set that is intended to complement the base T-33A package developed by Massimo Taccoli (available separately), which must be installed prior to using these enhanced liveries. Genaro Dominguez meticulously recreated the aircraft markings using the original paint kit by Massimo Taccoli. The end result captures the distinctive style that has long characterized the T-33A in Mexican military service, honoring the jet’s legacy as a reliable advanced trainer.

Background on the T-33A “Shooting Star”

The Lockheed T-33A emerges from the single-seat F-80C platform (originally designated P-80), featuring an extended fuselage for a second cockpit. Known as the “Shooting Star” in early variants, this jet has a storied reputation in various forces around the globe. First taking flight in 1948, it fulfilled roles including pilot preparation and proficiency training. Although production ceased decades ago, many air arms continued to fly the T-33A for surveillance and liaison missions due to its robust airframe and favorable handling.

Unique Fuerza Aérea Mexicana Colors

This particular repaint highlights external details customized for Mexican Air Force operations. Subtle variations in markings, emblems, and serial numbers differentiate networked squadrons, reflecting how Fuerza Aérea Mexicana integrated this versatile trainer into day-to-day readiness. The textures faithfully reproduce each fuselage accent and structural contour, preserving the classic silhouette of a cold-war-era jet with vivid authenticity.

Required Files and Installation

Important: These are texture files only. The freeware T-33A base model and the relevant fix packs from Massimo Taccoli must be obtained separately (both are typically available in the Fly Away Simulation library). Once that essential package is installed, place the included repaint texture folder into the appropriate directory within your “SimObjects” or “Aircraft” folder.

Configuration Edits

After placing the textures, add the following lines to your aircraft.cfg file. Replace &ls;xx> with the next consecutive number in your fltsim sequence.

Description=Lockheed produced the T-33 "Shooting Star" to meet a USAF need for a jet trainer by lengthening the F-80C. The first T-33 flew in 1948. Production included 5,691 built by Lockheed, plus 656 by Canadair, and 210 by Kawasaki. This trainer served numerous air forces globally for many years.

Technical Observations

Performance nuances in-sim reflect the T-33A’s historically stable flight behavior. While modern avionics are not present by default, the analog instrumentation is rendered with accurate gauge layouts. Additionally, the textures highlight nuanced reflectivity and weathering patterns for enhanced immersion. Pilots can practice formation procedures, day-and-night landings, or general cross-country flights while enjoying a glimpse into mid-century jet training protocols.

Credits and Acknowledgements

This freeware repaint is maintained by Genaro Dominguez, utilizing the paint kit and base model by Massimo Taccoli. The dedication of both creators ensures an authentic tribute to the T-33A’s service under the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana banner.
