This add-on provides an FS2004-compatible AI repaint featuring the Dutch Caribbean Exel Boeing 767-300, highlighting the visual style of this former airline from the Netherlands Antilles. Authored by AI Aardvark and refinished by Jasper Hesselink, the package complements the base freeware release (available in the Fly Away Simulation mod library) and offers a distinctive livery designed for realistic traffic flows.
Origins and Technical Authorship
AI Aardvark produced the underlying aircraft files with a focus on performance and efficiency, ensuring smooth frame rates within crowded virtual airports. Repainted by Jasper Hesselink, this rendition presents the Dutch Caribbean Exel branding, celebrating an operator that once served key routes among the Caribbean islands and beyond. The Boeing 767-300 itself, known for its wide-body layout and medium-to-long-haul capability, suits many real-world regional and intercontinental connections.

Installation Steps and Key File Placement
- Locate the
texture.dce
folder contained in this download. - Transfer that texture directory into the existing AI Aardvark 767-300PW folder.
- Open the
aircraft.cfg
file and insert the provided[fltsim.x]
section, ensuring the sequence numbers remain consistent with your other add-ons.
Note: This repaint set does not include the original AI Aardvark 767-300 base package. Please obtain the freeware files from the Fly Away Simulation library prior to installing this liveried texture.
Reflections and Visual Tweaks
By default, the airframe uses a non-reflective variant. For those wanting to enable reflective surfaces, open the aircraft.cfg
and switch the entry from model=no_refl
to model=reflective
. Although the provided paint files do not utilize a reflective channel, you may still experiment with different looks if you apply your own reflective adjustments in the future.
LOD (Levels of Detail) and Optimized AI Presence
This AI-specific aircraft employs six distinct LOD frameworks (also referred to as progressively simplified 3D geometry). As distance from the viewer increases, the system automatically transitions to less complex versions of the mesh, alleviating strain on frame rates. In contrast, full-detail GMAX imports, though visually striking, do not always implement these automated LOD steps, which can lower performance when numerous traffic assets appear in busy airspace.
AI Flight Dynamics Essentials
AI traffic relies on specialized flight parameters that balance stable takeoffs with a tendency to settle quickly after touchdown. These flight profiles ensure multiple aircraft can occupy a single airfield in quick succession without stalling approach flow. If you prefer more pronounced ground effect or extended runway float, you can fine-tune the cruise_lift
, parasite_drag
, or induced_drag
values in the aircraft.cfg
file to suit your personal preference.
