Experience a nuanced rendering of a classic Soviet-era biplane in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 with this specially prepared retired Aeroflot repaint. Created by Steve Baldwin and built on the original Tim Conrad freeware model, this add-on highlights the impressive heritage of the Antonov An-2T, showcasing its enduring capabilities alongside a vintage appearance once sported by Aeroflot. This package contains textures only and requires the base freeware model found in the Fly Away Simulation file library.

Historical Context and Unique Heritage

The Antonov An-2T (identified by its NATO reporting name “Colt”) originated in 1947 as a rugged single-engine biplane designed by the Antonov Design Bureau. Despite initial skepticism, it proved remarkably versatile for passenger transport, cargo hauling, agricultural operations, and parachute drops alike. Over the decades, its robust airframe and straightforward mechanics made it a mainstay in many aviation fleets. This repaint draws on Aeroflot’s longstanding legacy—originally founded in 1923—to convey the airline’s retired scheme once visible on domestic Soviet routes.

Refined Aeroflot Repaint Features

  • Authentic retired Aeroflot coloration based on real photos.
  • Careful attention to detail, capturing the distinctive layout of the original livery.
  • Compatibility with the freeware Tim Conrad An-2T base model (AN2TPPP.ZIP).
  • High-resolution textures retaining clarity even during close-up inspection.

Installation Steps

  1. Unzip the texture.exaero folder and place it in your An2T directory, which resides under Aircraft in your simulator’s main folder.
  2. Locate the aircraft.cfg file within the An2T folder, then open it with a text editor.
  3. Insert the following configuration details, ensuring you replace “XX” with the next available number in your sequence.

description = First appearing in 1947, the AN-2 was initially deemed obsolete due to its biplane design. Yet, it surpassed all expectations across varied roles, including passenger transport, cargo, and specialized operations. Most of the over 20,000 airframes were built in Poland, affirming its enduring relevance despite its seemingly outdated appearance.

Important Notes

  • This repaint is intended for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Compatibility with other platforms or simulators may require adjustments.
  • The freeware base package AN2TPPP.ZIP, by Tim Conrad, must be installed beforehand to use these textures. The file is available in the Fly Away Simulation library.
  • All credit for the base model goes to Tim Conrad, and special recognition goes to Steve Baldwin for crafting this repaint with historical accuracy.
