This repaint introduces the historic Interior Airways markings to the Curtiss C-46 Commando. It is designed for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and also compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It only includes textures, so you must have access to the freeware base package (c46ga.zip) beforehand. Developed originally by Libardo Guzman, Greg Pepper, and Tom Gibson, this rendition has been repainted by Dave McQueen. The base model is not bundled; you can find it separately in the Fly Away Simulation library.

Brief Notes on the Curtiss C-46 Commando
The Curtiss C-46 Commando is a large twin-engine transport aircraft originally used as a military cargo carrier. Over time, it transitioned to civilian roles and found its way into the fleets of smaller regional carriers. Its robust airframe and ample cargo capacity made it prized in remote areas, including the rugged routes relied upon by carriers in Alaska.
What This Repaint Contributes
These textures replicate an Interior Airways theme from the early 1960s, including authentic registration markings and color patterns. Interior Airways, which served remote Alaskan communities, was known for operating sturdy aircraft adapted to challenging weather. This custom scheme pays tribute to that legacy.
Key Installation Steps
- Ensure that you already have the freeware base package (c46ga.zip) set up in your simulator directory.
- Open the “GA C46” folder located under “Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\GA C46” (for FS2004) or “Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\GA C46” (for FSX).
- Extract the included texture.interior folder from this repaint and move it into the “GA C46” folder.
- Use a text editor (for example, WordPad) to append the following lines to your aircraft.cfg file right after the final [fltsim.x] section:
[fltsim.14]
title=C46A Interior
sim=C46A

After pasting, change the bracketed index ([fltsim.14]) to a value one above the existing highest in the file. For instance, if the preceding entry is [fltsim.7], adjust it to [fltsim.8] to maintain proper numerical order.
Additional Remarks
This freeware livery accurately depicts an important era of Alaskan aviation history. By merging historical coloring with the detailed C-46 Commando model by Guzman, Pepper, and Gibson, it immerses flight simulation enthusiasts in the character of mid-century interior passenger and cargo transport.
