This is the original L-1049 Prototype used by Lockheed as a test bed for the PO-2W / WV2. Both the initial (no tiptanks) and the later test variants (with tip tanks) are included. Original Aircraft by Team 1049 (Manfred Jahn, Roland Berger, Volker Boehme, Luis Pallas, Bill Tyne, and Stefan Werner), requires both WV2-1.ZIP and WV2-A.ZIP. Repaint by Dan McManus.

Known issue: The operating door does not line up with the prototype door, be wary if your open the door or use the airstairs they will be in an odd position.

  • Extract and Drop the folders texture.WV2ProtE into your Team 1049 Lockheed WV2_2 folder.
  • Copy and paste the following into the appropriate acft.cfg file.
  • Renumber [fltsim.XX] block to the next available number.

description=The original XC-69 Prototype "The Beast" was purchased from Howard Hughes for $100,000 in 1950. Lengthened by 18ft 7 Inches, it became the prototype L-1049. Later, this aircraft was used by Lockheed as a test bed for future models, including the PO-2W / WV2. This is the initial test bird, which had a retractable dorsal radome (for the height finder radar) to test stability and drag characteristics.
