This freeware package offers a custom livery repaint for the payware Douglas DC-2 created by the Uiver Team X, featuring the distinguished markings of the Douglas Historical Foundation. The revenue generated by the official DC-2 payware release is routed to the Aviodrome, a noted aviation museum in the Netherlands. This texture set, crafted by Tim Scharnhop, requires the separately purchased DC-2 product to function within Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Historic Background Details

The Douglas DC-2 originated in the 1930s as a twin-engine airliner that paved the way for its legendary successor, the DC-3. This particular airframe, identified as DC-2-118B (MSM 1368), once flew in different liveries throughout its operational lifetime. While it now belongs to the Museum of Flight (Seattle) and carries a TWA-inspired finish with the registration N1934D, the repaint provided here depicts the historical Douglas Historical Foundation scheme under registration NC1934D.

Contributors and Credits

Development of this DC-2 update involved multiple contributors: FSX flight dynamics were fine-tuned by Tom Falley and Rob Cappers; the 3D model was shaped by Alexander Schreijnders, Jan Visser, and Rob Cappers; texture artistry was completed by Tim Scharnhop, Gerrit Kranenbarg, and Jan Visser; the virtual cockpit and internal design were developed by Rob Cappers, Tim Scharnhop, and Jan Visser; HansJoerg Naegele handled XML and DLL programming; gauge bitmaps were produced by Rob Cappers and Tim Scharnhop; and effects were incorporated by Roland Berger.

Installation Steps (Sequential Guide)

  1. Extract dc2X_dhf.ZIP to a temporary directory while preserving the folder hierarchy.
  2. Locate the folder named texture.dc2 from within the extracted directory and place it inside the Douglas_DC2_X folder within your Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes path.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file using a text editor. Append the new [fltsim.X] entry below the existing numbered sections, ensuring that you replace “XX” with the next available number in your sequence. An example block is shown below, but adjust it as necessary:

Payware Notes

This repaint does not include the payware Douglas DC-2 model itself. To fully experience this livery, the payware add-on from the Uiver Team X is required and must be obtained separately, for example, through a dedicated retail platform such as SimShack. Proceeds from official DC-2 purchases are directed to the Aviodrome, benefiting the preservation of aviation heritage.
