This freeware repaint showcases the Air Grand Canyon–Yosemite theme for the stock Douglas DC-3 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, integrating modifications by James Eden and Jon Murchison. This package, authored by Gary Harper, requires the AS4SUMJE.ZIP enhancement for the default DC-3 and does not include the underlying model. The core files can be found in the Fly Away Simulation mod library.
Distinctive Exterior Features
These textures bring a distinctive Air Grand Canyon–Yosemite visual design to the iconic twin-engine DC-3. The livery evokes the scenic splendor of the Grand Canyon region, reflecting the rugged canyons and dramatic vistas that countless visitors fly over routinely. Meanwhile, the Yosemite namesake further highlights the majestic national park atmosphere, enhancing immersion for sim pilots who enjoy route flying across the American Southwest.
Historical DC-3 Undercurrents
The Douglas DC-3 emerged in the mid-1930s and rapidly transformed both passenger travel and commercial aviation. Its cabin amenities—such as heated interiors and functional water supply—were considered innovative for the era. Operators also found the DC-3’s combination of efficient cruising speeds and acceptable payload particularly appealing, since it could generate profits simply from passenger transport. Even now, a select number of these airframes remain active worldwide.

Installation Steps
To incorporate these textures into your simulator setup, ensure you have already obtained James Eden and Jon Murchison’s AS4SUMJE.ZIP modification for the default Microsoft Flight Simulator X DC-3. After downloading and installing that package, place the included “texture.gcy” folder into the appropriate DC-3 directory. Then, add the following section into your aircraft configuration file, adjusting [fltsim.xx] to the correct sequential number:

description="The Douglas DC-3 revolutionized air transportation and airline service during the 1930s and 1940s. It was a luxury airliner that boasted cabin heat and running water in its on-board lavatory. With the right balance of efficiency, range, speed, and payload, the DC-3 was the first aircraft to earn a profit for its owners just by carrying passengers. The hero of early airlines, a handful of DC-3s are still at work today."
