This fictional Securite Civile repaint brings the well-known Douglas C-117D Skytrooper to a different level of immersion within Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The design, created by B. Lechner, draws upon the freeware model developed by Manfred Jahn, Alexander M. Metzger, and Hans-Joerg Naegele, giving enthusiasts an opportunity to operate a variant that reflects a firefighting and rescue role under the French Securite Civile banner. This unique livery does not ship with the base aircraft; interested users must separately acquire the freeware package from the Fly Away Simulation library.
Distinctive Add-On Features and Historical Context
The Douglas C-117D is recognized as a stretched adaptation of the classic DC-3 airframe. In its real-world service, it retained strong STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) capabilities, making it well-suited for rugged operations. Although this repaint is set within a fictitious Securite Civile environment, French civil protection authorities have historically relied on reliable, durable airframes for aerial firefighting, rescue, and maritime support. This livery attempts to capture the essence of that mission profile, while retaining the core details of the venerable C-117D design.
Visual Elements
This texture highlights bright exterior details and vivid markings that echo the firefighting and rescue missions typically associated with the Securite Civile. A distinctive paint scheme covers the fuselage and tail, ensuring it stands out amongst other Douglas aircraft in your flight simulator collection. Even though this scheme is purely fictional, it closely aligns with the bold aesthetics and functional highlights you might expect from real-life aerial firefighting fleets.
