These four specialized US Marine Corps repaints bring the VMFA-225 “Vikings” into Microsoft Flight Simulator X with a fictional twist, envisioning how this squadron might look if they upgraded their F/A-18D platforms to the Lockheed Martin F-35C. S. Peterson crafted these textures to align with Dino Cattaneo’s freeware F-35C model, ensuring an immersive experience for virtual pilots who appreciate carrier-based operations and authentic Marine Corps branding. Each repaint showcases unique squadron markings while embracing the advanced stealth design of the F-35C, offering a comprehensive upgrade to your modern combat jet collection.
Fictional VMFA-225 Liveries
Distinctive Squadron Markings
All four paint schemes incorporate stylized Viking insignia, signifying VMFA-225’s historical heritage. These markings are overlaid on the streamlined F-35C airframe, reflecting the fictional evolution of the “Vikings” in a cutting-edge stealth setting. Subtle detailing on wingtips, fuselage, and tail surfaces differentiates each variant and accurately captures the spirit of the Marine Corps’ tactical operations.

Base Model Requirements
These repaints do not include the actual F-35C aircraft model. Any flight simmer wishing to utilize these textures must obtain Dino Cattaneo’s freeware F-35C package (often referenced as F35V230.ZIP). This particular base aircraft replicates the carrier-capable variant of the fifth-generation Lightning II, complete with tailhook functionality, enhanced avionics, and vectoring systems crucial for naval operations.
Installation Instructions
- Place the texture folders into the existing F-35C directory (commonly found under “SimObjects/Airplanes”).
- Add the relevant entries below inside the
aircraft.cfg
file, adjusting[fltsim.x]

Additional Notes
Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225 (VMFA(AW)-225) has a long history with multiple aircraft platforms. Although this repaint set is fully fictional, it introduces a plausible shift to carrier-borne F-35Cs in an American Marine unit. Any user seeking modern multirole prowess within FSX will find these liveries especially appealing, as they blend the futuristic silhouette of the Lightning II with recognizable Viking motifs. S. Peterson and Dino Cattaneo collaborated through these additions, bringing authenticity for free to all simmers looking to broaden their modern military hangar.

The Marines fly the B model, not the C.
