This free repaint package presents N103DX for the default Mooney Bravo G1000 in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It depicts a real-world Mooney Acclaim Type S—known for high-performance cruising and remarkable climb capabilities. These DDS-format textures, created by the developer Zane Gard, showcase the finish of the first Type S ever delivered. Optional enhancements are included to refine the aircraft’s cockpit displays, camera angles, and flight parameters, effectively reflecting the speed and climb rate of the real Type S model. A special note of appreciation goes to William Ortis for assisting in the design work. The base, non-included Mooney Bravo model can be obtained from the Fly Away Simulation library.

Enhanced Visual Details and Realistic Configuration

The included livery highlights the authentic markings of N103DX, capturing the streamlined profile that has made the Acclaim Type S famous. High-resolution DDS textures maximize clarity and color accuracy within FSX, contributing to a detailed exterior finish. Developers also offer optional panel adjustments and camera definitions intended to replicate the operational feel of a real Acclaim, especially regarding cockpit perspectives and flight deck instrumentation.

Background on the Mooney Acclaim Type S

The Mooney Acclaim Type S is one of the fastest single-engine piston aircraft in production. With a potential to push cruise speeds up to 242 KTAS at altitudes reaching 25,000 feet, this model demonstrates a rigorous commitment to efficiency and power. Its airframe and aerodynamic improvements, combined with the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit, streamline pilot workload while delivering a modern flight deck environment.

Installation Process

  1. Locate your default FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes/Mooney_Bravo folder.
  2. Copy the texture.N103DX folder from this package into the Mooney_Bravo directory.
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file with a text editor such as Windows Notepad.
  4. Scroll to the final aircraft entry; then copy and paste the following text below the last [fltsim.X] section.

Replace XX with the next available number in sequence:

description="Mooneys are built to go fast. A focus on speed seems natural for a company that at one time offered a plane powered by a Porsche engine. Although the partnership with the Germans didn't last, Mooney's commitment to speed certainly has. In keeping with this idea, Mooney has experimented with a number of big-engine models. The Acclaim Type S is Mooney's fastest. With 280 hp all the way to 25,000 ft, the Acclaim Type S can attain speeds up to 242 KTAS, making it the fastest single-engine airplane currently produced."

Optional Panel and Performance Adjustments

For those seeking additional realism, optional performance tweaks are offered to illustrate a more accurate climb rate and top-speed profile. When applied, these aircraft.cfg updates align closer to the real Acclaim Type S. The panel files can further refine the G1000 suite readouts and ensure advanced flight instrumentation is well represented within the simulator.
