This freeware package offers a specialized repaint for the default de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, featuring the Norwegian-registered LN-BIE design created by Henry William. Enthusiasts of classic bush planes will enjoy the iconic Beaver’s short takeoff and landing capabilities, and this livery highlights an authentic regional registration. These enhancements preserve the aircraft’s original rugged performance while showcasing a distinctive new look.

Enhanced Visual Details for LN-BIE

The distinctive LN-BIE rendition captures an authentic color scheme based on a real-world Norwegian registration. De Havilland’s Beaver, introduced in the late 1940s, was engineered for remote operations and remains a benchmark for utility flying. This repaint reflects the aircraft’s heritage by retaining the practical appearance of a proven workhorse while adding a custom identity that stands out on any virtual tarmac.

Installation Steps and Tail Number Setup

  1. First, extract all contents of this repaint’s ZIP archive to a temporary location on your desktop.
  2. Locate the folder named texture.bie and copy it into the main aircraft directory for the DHC-2 Beaver, usually found under:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\DeHavilland_Beaver_DHC2
  3. Open the aircraft.cfg file within that same folder. Append the following configuration block beneath the last [fltsim.x] entry, ensuring you increase the fltsim.xx number accordingly (replace XX with the next available number):

[fltsim.xx] title= DeHavilland Beaver DHC2 BIE sim=DeHavilland_Beaver_DHC2 model= panel= sound= texture=bie kb_checklists=DehavillandBeaverDHC2_check kb_reference=DehavillandBeaverDHC2_ref atc_id=N9766Z ui_manufacturer="de Havilland" ui_type="Beaver DHC2" ui_variation=" LN-BIE" ui_typerole="Single Engine Prop" ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation" description="When pilots talk about the de Havilland Beaver, the word that inevitably comes up is workhorse. For more than 50 years this sturdy aircraft has flown into and out of remote locations aided by its power, all-metal ruggedness, wide stance, and short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) capability. Whether fitted with wheels, skis, or pontoons, the Beaver is a can-do airplane. Often referred to as a “flying half-ton truck,” the Beaver is more versatile, and tougher, than any light truck. It was designed from the beginning to meet the needs of Canadian bush pilots, and no better plane for the purpose has come along. After half a century of service, the Beaver is still the thoroughbred of workhorse aircraft."

To disable the default tail number display, select Details in the aircraft selection menu and uncheck the "Show Tail Number" option. This ensures the custom LN-BIE registration appears correctly.

Technical Highlights of the DHC-2 Beaver

The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver is renowned for its rugged design, which includes a sturdy airframe and dependable radial engine. With a generous wingspan and high-lift wing structure, it can depart and land on remarkably short strips, making it ideal for bush flying or floatplane operations. Although this repaint does not alter performance characteristics, it delivers an authentic external representation of LN-BIE while maintaining the Beaver’s unique capabilities.

Base Model Requirements

This livery is designed specifically for the default DHC-2 Beaver in Microsoft Flight Simulator X and relies on the freeware base model. The repaint does not include that base component, so acquire the primary DHC-2 Beaver files from the Fly Away Simulation library. Once installed, integrate this package for a fully featured LN-BIE experience.

Enjoy your flights around scenic locales or challenging bush airfields, and immerse yourself in the classic performance of this storied aircraft. Henry William has carefully crafted this repaint to blend Norwegian markings with the timeless design elements that de Havilland established decades ago.
