This repaint offers a subdued Grumman OV-1D Mohawk theme featuring a matte woodland camouflage finish, fully compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator X. By blending a distinctive battlefield reconnaissance airframe with low-luster exterior textures, it delivers both style and realism in one updated package. Developed originally by Tim Conrad, then modified and repainted by Mark Rooks of RSDG, this download includes all base files for a quick and seamless installation.
Adapted Reconnaissance Airframe
The Grumman OV-1D Mohawk served as a U.S. Army surveillance aircraft designed for tactical observation. It was also utilized in signal interception roles by reconfiguring onboard sensors to match mission-specific demands. Its triple-fin tail assembly, along with the top-mounted engine nacelles, immediately sets it apart from other platforms. Furthermore, the recognizable Side Looking Airborne Radar (S.L.A.R.) housing below the fuselage offers additional intelligence-gathering capabilities. During earlier military operations, variants known as the JOV-1A were deployed in armed roles, especially notable throughout the Vietnam era.
Woodland Camouflage Styling
These camouflage textures convey a refined, low-reflective appearance that merges practicality with striking presentation. The subdued coloration helps emphasize the aircraft’s mission profile while showcasing its unique lines. Since Mark Rooks meticulously tuned the liveries for compatibility, sim pilots can enjoy enhanced external detail without sacrificing performance.
Installation Process
- Backup Existing Files: Prior to any replacement, save original aircraft data as a precaution.
- Extract and Move Files: Unzip the downloaded contents to a temporary location, then copy the “OV 1 Mohawk” folder into the main aircraft directory.
- Gauge and Panel Setup: Move the included gauges and panel files into their respective simulator folders.
- Assign Sound Files: Due to bandwidth constraints, use default King Air sound resources for audio, ensuring authenticity.
By default, the main aircraft folder can often be found in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Aircraft
Textures contributed and refined by Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks.
