This detailed freeware package showcases the only known operational B-series OV-1B Mohawk, registered as #59-2631, and brings its distinctive heritage to Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Designed by Tim “Piglet” Conrad with repaints by Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks of RDG Aircraft, this custom package highlights the role of the Mohawk in reconnaissance missions and reflects its service with the Georgia Army National Guard in Winder, Georgia.

Historical Significance of the OV-1B Airframe

The original Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was engineered as a twin-turboprop surveillance platform featuring short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities. Model “B” variants incorporated advanced radar packages for battlefield intelligence, providing ground forces with critical real-time data from 1959 through 1996. Aircraft #59-2631—the focus here—remains the final known flying example of the B-version and is currently preserved by the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation, paying homage to its decades-long operational record.

Winder, Georgia Connection

From 1978 to 1985, #59-2631 was assigned to the Army Aviation Facility in Winder, Georgia, under the Georgia Army National Guard. During this period, the airframe participated in multiple stateside missions, further validating the Mohawk’s adaptability in observation, surveillance, and liaison roles.

How to Integrate This Aircraft into FSX

  1. Extract the Files: Unzip the downloaded archive to a location of your choice, making sure all folders remain intact.
  2. Locate Your Aircraft Directory: By default, the FSX aircraft folder resides at:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes
  3. Move the OV-1B Folder: Copy and paste the complete “Army OV-1B Mohawk #59-2631” folder (containing the CFG, air, model, sound, panel, and textures) into the FSX “Airplanes” directory.
  4. Install Gauges: Unzip the accompanying “Gauges” folder and place all gauge files into your main FSX “Gauges” folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\Gauges

Once completed, confirm that the Mohawk appears in your aircraft selection menu under the appropriate listing.
