This repaint for the Lockheed T-33, designed to work with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, highlights a distinctive US Marine Corps TO-2 from Marine Instrument Training Squadron 10 (VMIT-10) based at MCAS El Toro around 1952. The files included here only contain the external graphics, so users must obtain the freeware T-33A_FSX_2010_REV_A base model to integrate everything correctly. Developed by Ed Wells using Bill Stephens’s paint kit, this texture set has been expertly crafted by John Detrick.
Historical Context and Livery Details
The Lockheed T-33, often dubbed the “T-Bird,” evolved from the renowned P-80/F-80 Shooting Star platform. It became a standard jet trainer for numerous militaries and was widely recognized for its balance of reliability and performance. This particular USMC TO-2 repaint depicts an aircraft stationed with VMIT-10 at MCAS El Toro, a location that was historically significant for Marine Corps aviation training in Southern California. The vibrant squadron markings convey the era’s classic style and reflect the Marine Corps’ focus on jet instrument instruction during the early 1950s.
Repaint Package Requirements
- This is textures only. The revised T-33 model T-33A_FSX_2010_REV_A.ZIP must be installed beforehand.
- The paint kit by Bill Stephens was used to create the detailed surfaces and realistic finish.
- Ed Wells’ modifications ensure compatibility in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

description = Developed from Lockheed's F-80 Shooting Star fighter, this rather simple trainer conversion went on to be one of the most successful jet trainers in history, with over 5000 made. License production in Canada and Japan added a few hundred more. It's hard to find a nation who didn't fly the T-Bird at one time or another. This T-Bird is in the markings of a USMC TV-2 BuNo. 124585. assigned to VMIT-10 MCAS EL TORO, CA.

This addition ensures that the new livery appears within your simulator’s aircraft selection menu, complete with the proper designation and historical context. Because this package is purely a repaint, please verify that you have the correct base model installed for the textures to load accurately.
Author Appreciation
This texture set would not be possible without the dedication of John Detrick, along with the essential resources provided by Ed Wells and Bill Stephens. Remember that you can find the required freeware T-33 base model in the Fly Away Simulation library to complete your installation. Safe skies!
