The file offered here refreshes Bill Wolfgen’s well‑known Sukhoi Su‑27B/UB/Su‑30MKK freeware set for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Author Bob Chicilo retuned the aerodynamics, introduced a correct four‑point undercarriage configuration, crafted a purpose‑built 2‑D cockpit, and rewired both reheat and exhaust‑plume logic. Because this package modifies rather than replaces the original release, you must have Wolfgen’s base archive (SU27FLEX.ZIP) installed before applying the update.

Refinement Highlights You Will Notice Immediately

  • Revised Flight Model – Control‑law tables inside air and aircraft.cfg have been rebuilt to reflect the Flanker’s high‑alpha capability and characteristic roll‑rate damping above Mach 0.8.
  • Quad‑wheel Gear Arrangement – The fourth wheel (nose twin bogie and single tail support) now renders and tracks on the ground, eliminating the earlier “three‑leg” ground stance.
  • Purpose‑designed 2‑D Panel – An all‑new flat panel streamlines essential engine and system indications for those who prefer traditional monitors or multi‑screen rigs. (No virtual cockpit is included.)
  • Afterburner & Smoke Logic – Fresh .fx calls replicate the Saturn AL‑31F’s twin annular flame pattern and characteristic dark smoke at partial power.

The Sukhoi Flanker Family in Context

Introduced during the mid‑1980s, the Su‑27B (NATO reporting name “Flanker‑B”) serves as the baseline air‑superiority variant within the larger Su‑27/Su‑30 lineage. Its blended wing–fuselage architecture and relaxed longitudinal stability grant the type superb maneuverability—qualities now mirrored more faithfully in Chicilo’s reworked tables. Although this package includes a representative paint scheme only, the aircraft’s performance parameters align closely with open‑source data: VMAX just above Mach 2.0, sustained 9‑g load limits, and high‑lift capability for short‑field recovery.

Compatibility and Prerequisites

Simulator Platform
Microsoft Flight Simulator X (SP2/Acceleration recommended).
Base Package Required
SU27FLEX.ZIP by Bill Wolfgen. Install and test the base model first.
Virtual Cockpit
Not supplied. Users reliant on 3‑D cockpits should retain the default exterior view or merge another VC at their own discretion.

Installation Flow (Concise)

  1. Extract this update to a temporary working folder.
  2. Backup existing .air, aircraft.cfg, and panel directories inside your SU‑27 aircraft folder.
  3. Overwrite the originals with the files provided here.
  4. Drop the new .fx entries into the main Effects directory of FSX.
  5. Ensure any default .cab (gauge) archives reside in FSX\Gauges. Some aircraft supply them as .zip files—extract if necessary.
  6. Refer to the [Reference Speeds] stanza in aircraft.cfg before your first sortie.

Redistribution & Use

Bob Chicilo freely permits redistribution or further modification provided the work remains freeware and no party is harmed or disadvantaged by its use.
