This new texture set offers a distinctive “Fighting Omars” livery for the default Boeing F/A-18 included with Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration. Developed by Cronan Doyle, it features a striking blue paint scheme that replicates real-world adversary operations performed by the US Navy and Marine Corps.

Visual and Operational Highlights

Fighter Squadron Composite 12 (VFC-12) is known for its dedicated role in simulating high-end threat aircraft for combat training, often referred to as “adversary operations.” This repaint reflects the vivid blue surfaces typically flown by the squadron, also called the “Fighting Omars.” Pilots in VFC-12 employ the F/A-18 to replicate fourth-generation fighters such as the MiG-29, while their counterpart squadron, VFC-13, uses the F-5 series to mimic lighter MiG-21-type adversaries. Both VFC-12 and VFC-13 are assigned to Reserve Carrier Air Wing 20 (CVWR-20), although these units typically remain at Naval Air Stations for ongoing training and readiness.

Key Repaint Features

  • Accurate blue tones and insignia based on the Fighting Omars real-world paint layout.
  • Enhanced markings to distinguish this aircraft from other standard Navy F/A-18 skins.
  • Compatibility with the default Hornet model in Microsoft Flight Simulator X Acceleration.

How to Install

  1. Copy the included texture.OmarsB folder into your FSX “SimObjects/Airplanes/FA-18” directory.
  2. Edit the aircraft.cfg file by inserting the code below. Replace “XX” in [fltsim.XX] with the next available sequence.

[fltsim.xx] title=FA-18 Fighting Omars Blue sim=FA-18 model= panel= sound= texture=OmarsB kb_checklists=boeing_FA18_check kb_reference=boeing_FA18_ref atc_id=000 atc_airline=NAVY atc_flight_number=000 ui_manufacturer="Boeing" ui_type="F/A-18" ui_variation="Fighting Omars Blue" ui_typerole="Twin Engine Jet" ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation" description="Fighter Squadron Composite 12, known as the Fighting Omars, provides advanced adversary training for Navy and Marine Corps aviation units. They are one of the few remaining air combat opponent squadrons in the US Navy and operate the F/A-18 to emulate various fourth-generation threats. Repaint by Cronan Doyle."

Important Note

This add-on only includes the repaint files. You must have the default F/A-18 Hornet from FSX Acceleration (or equivalent freeware model) installed. If you do not have the base model, it can be found in the Fly Away Simulation library. All rights and acknowledgments go to the original developers of the aircraft model and to Cronan Doyle for creating this repaint.
