FSX Short S.45 Solent

Short S.45 Solent brings a classic 1946 flying boat airliner to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, capturing the era of BOAC, TEAL, and Aquila Airways with multiple Solent 3 and Solent 4 liveries. Version 3 sharpens the experience with a more accurate, detailed panel and virtual cockpit for authentic propliner operations.

This is for FSX, FS2004 users should download Sol_V30.zip instead.

Version 3.0 for FSX. The panel and virtual cockpit are much more accurate and detailed.

Installation:

*To install for Flight Simulator X - A Century of Flight:

Run the included setup program.

Setup will update an earlier installation of version 2.0, but it is probably safer to do this by hand before installing the new version. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove applications.

Sounds: The stock Douglas DC-3 sounds are used. Replace with more interesting propliner sounds if you wish. An excellent choice is the Bristol Hercules sounds by Gary Jones.

The gauges are to some extent based on default gauges of Flight Simulator FSX or FS2004, most of them modified by me. Other gauges are by myself.

The ILS indicator is based on xml code by Saviero Maurri (Vickers Varsity panel), bitmaps by me.

A number of gauges (mostly switches) are, with permission from Tom Gibson, www.calclassic.com, based on work by Tom himself, Kevin Trinkle, Ernie Kennedy and Ken 'Mitch' Mitchell.

Finally, a big 'thank you' to Hans-Joerg Naegele, who gave me permission to use gauges from his Lockheed 049 Constellation panel (VNConnie049.cab), directly or modified.

Magneto switches, starter buttons, prop feathering buttons and engine gauges are based on public domain gauges by Mike (MoparMike) Wagner, converted to XML by Jens B. Kristensen.

This plane was originally made with FSDS 2.24, this new version with FSDS 3.5.1; the textures with Paint Shop Pro, DxtBmp and Microsoft's Imagetool.

Good luck flying the Short Solent!
