FSX / P3D scenery

FSX Sicily VFR Scenery

Sicily VFR Scenery brings sharper, more believable terrain to Sicily with an SRTM3 90 m mesh resampled to LOD10, refining coastlines, water bodies, and mountain profiles for low-level VFR flying around Mount Etna. Built for FSX and tested with Service Pack 2, it delivers accurate elevation detail across the island.

Sicily VFR Scenery, SRTM3 terrain mesh of Italy. Tested with SP2. Version 2 of the SRTM digital topographic data is the result of a substantial editing effort by the NGA and exhibits well-defined water bodies and coastlines and the absence of spikes and wells (single pixel errors), although some areas of missing data ('voids') are still present. Enhanced Terrain Mesh SRTM3 (90 meters) version 2.

Mountain Etna, Sicily.

True elevation (July 2005): 3325m
Elevation given by many authorities: 3350m

I think the official elevation is 3323m, 10991 ft (Source: Tactical Pilotage Chart G-2B edition 6).
I have used this.
The elevation may vary due to volcanic activity.

This scenery area is a terrain mesh SRTM 3 arc/sec (90 meters) version 2 resampled at LOD 10.

Special thanks to:

Comments, criticism welcomed - and anyone who wants to add improvements, go right ahead. I think this a bit of an improvement on the basic FSX representation.

If you want, go to in AVSIM: File Library, Extended Search and then do a search for "MIDURI" without the quotes and down select "AUTHOR" , then Order by Date and Scan mode. Make Change view. You see all my work.

Have a good flight. Enjoy.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
