Flight Simulator X Prepar3D

This release provides a meticulous repaint for Tim Conrad’s Waco UPF-7, tailored specifically to represent the French-registered F-AZLC. Designed to integrate seamlessly into Microsoft Flight Simulator X, this add-on preserves the timeless elegance of the late 1930s bipLANe while showcasing French markings. It has been developed as freeware by Barnyard Repaints and requires the original WACO UPF-7 package by Tim Conrad, which is also available in the Fly Away Simulation library.

Inspiration from the Historic Airframe

The real-world Waco UPF-7 traces its roots to 1937, when it emerged as a two- to three-seat sport and training biplane. It gained significant recognition as the PT-14 during its service with the Army Air Corps, with hundreds produced. Today, numerous airworthy examples remain active across various aviation communities, including France. The authentic F-AZLC scheme highlights this global heritage, offering an opportunity for enthusiasts to experience the distinct flavor of a French-based Waco.

Key Repaint Details

This texture pack reproduces the graceful lines and color scheme of F-AZLC, emphasizing exterior markings and fuselage details. The repaint carefully balances historical accuracy with subtle weathering effects to convey authentic usage in French conditions.

Preparation and Integration Steps

  1. Ensure Tim Conrad’s base WACO UPF-7 (WACOUPF7.ZIP) is installed in your main simulator directory. Place it in your “SimObjects/Airplanes” folder (or the equivalent structure used by Microsoft Flight Simulator X).
  2. Extract the downloaded repaint package to a convenient temporary location.
  3. Within the existing “UPF-7” folder, create a new subfolder labeled texture.fr and copy the default texture files into it.
  4. From your temporary folder, copy the provided BMP files and the thumbnail.jpg image into the newly created texture.fr folder. Overwrite any existing files when prompted.
  5. Open the Aircraft.cfg file located in the “UPF-7” folder. Append the following block (adjusting “xx” to the next consecutive fltsim number):

  1. Finalize the process by saving your Aircraft.cfg and launching the simulator to confirm the new livery.
