This repaint set offers a carefully crafted Modern Air Transport Martin 2-0-2A from approximately 1967. Designed by Gary Harper, these textures integrate seamlessly into Dee Waldron’s freeware Martin 202 model and are tailored for use in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. Each detail has been refined to recreate the distinctive look of this short-haul postwar airliner, with a focus on authenticity and fidelity to the period. Although this package includes only repaint files, flight simulation enthusiasts can acquire the base Martin 202 model, originally published at California Classics, separately. Both Gary Harper and Dee Waldron are recognized for their outstanding contributions to this particular aircraft representation.

Key Visual Touches On The Exterior

Metallic Sheen: The surfaces have been supplemented with reflective effects where appropriate, especially along the fuselage. This approach highlights the late 1960s corporate styling of Modern Air Transport.

Color Accuracy: Subtle shading and panel lines ensure the textures align with real-world references from that era. Cabin windows have also been adjusted to match the airline’s typical configuration.

Historical Notes On The Martin 2-0-2A

The Martin 2-0-2 series emerged shortly after World War II. It was conceived as a twin-engine piston airliner but initially suffered from structural flaws in the early production runs. Subsequent remanufacturing efforts led to the revised 2-0-2A variant, which included reinforced airframes and reliability enhancements. Despite its unpressurized cabin, the 2-0-2A could maintain relatively brisk speeds on shorter routes. Original operators included airlines such as Northwest Orient, TWA, LAN-Chile, and Linea Aeropostal Venezolana. Although it never gained widespread commercial success after its initial setbacks, the upgraded 2-0-2A variant remained in service for several years under strict operating protocols.

Installation Process And Configuration

This package only contains external textures for the Martin 202. You will need to download and install Dee Waldron’s freeware base model separately from the Fly Away Simulation library. After acquiring the base files, follow these steps to integrate the Modern Air Transport repaint:

  • Unzip the repaint package and locate the texture.mat folder.
  • Move the texture.mat folder into the existing Martin 202 aircraft directory (or subfolder).
  • Add the following lines to your aircraft.cfg file under the next available [fltsim.xx] entry.

description=Rushed into production after WW2, the unpressurized 2-0-2 introduced in 1947 had multiple design faults. Some units were rebuilt as 2-0-2As starting in 1949, with twelve additional airframes produced from scratch by 1950. Although owners like Northwest Orient, LAN-Chile, Linea Aeropostal Venezolana, and TWA received 2-0-2s, its initial issues tarnished its reputation. However, the modified 2-0-2A, with careful handling, could operate efficiently on short-haul routes, maintaining notable speed beneath pressurized altitudes.

Additional Points Of Interest

Flight Dynamics: Even though the real-world 2-0-2A faced operational constraints, simulate day-to-day short-range hops in your virtual cockpit by following recommended power and altitude settings.

Piston Power Authenticity: To approximate realistic engine performance, many simmers choose to configure throttle and mixture settings carefully, reflecting historical guidelines for the Martin platform.

By merging Gary Harper’s meticulous texture work with Dee Waldron’s original model, you can recreate a slice of 1960s aviation. Feel free to explore additional repaints for broader immersion in vintage commercial flight.
