This freeware adaptation offers a detailed Air Canada 747-400, registration C-FGNZ, for avid flight simulator users. It merges advanced modeling with thorough FSX adjustments, ensuring accurate system behavior and impressive visuals. The creators, including original developer Melvin Rafi, Air Canada repaint artist Capt. Wes Archibald, plus FSX converter and updater David Grindele, collaborated to maintain authenticity and performance.

Aircraft Overview

This version of the Boeing 747-400 is based on the “MelJet” Rolls Royce RB211-524H platform. The aircraft exhibits reflective textures, wing flex animations, fully moving control surfaces, and tilt-capable landing gear assemblies. It also features opening cargo and passenger doors for enhanced ground operations.

Key Technical Details

  • Developed from the ground up in Gmax by Melvin Rafi.
  • Repaint crafted by Capt. Wes Archibald, reflecting Air Canada’s distinctive livery.
  • Refined for FSX by David Grindele, including updated flight dynamics and configuration files.
  • A2A 3D Lights and Redux (if installed) further improve external illumination.
  • Shift + E reveals the engine cowlings for maintenance views.
  • Control + J triggers the jetway alignment at supported gates.

The original MelJet line was introduced for older simulation platforms. However, this package has been carefully optimized for FSX. Changes include reworked air files, a revised aircraft.cfg, and integration of modern lighting effects. These tweaks strive to preserve fidelity without compromising performance.

Airline Background

Air Canada remains one of the major carriers operating in North America. Historically, the airline used multiple Boeing 747 variants for long-haul routes. That legacy lives on here with an accurate exterior finish, capturing tail markings and fuselage details that defined Air Canada’s international fleet.

Installation Instructions

  1. Extract the included “Aircraft” folder into the FSX “SimObjects/Airplanes/” directory.
  2. Launch the simulator and open the aircraft selection menu. Look for the MELJET manufacturer entry.
  3. Select the Air Canada 747-400 and enjoy the flight. No extra components are required, except the optional A2A lighting add-on.

Testing confirms functionality in FSX under Windows Vista 32-bit and Windows XP. When installed correctly, this add-on showcases full-size door animations, compound slats, main gear compression effects, and realistic flight responses.

Additional Notes

This aircraft stands as a testament to MelJet’s meticulous modeling. The improved dynamics allow smooth handling throughout climb, cruise, and descent. Components such as flexible wings and realistically moving doors further enrich the immersion.

Credit for this creation goes to:

  • Original Model Developer: Melvin Rafi
  • Air Canada Repaint: Capt. Wes Archibald
  • FSX Updates and Conversion: David Grindele

All modifications retain the spirit of the original build. As a freeware package, it provides an impressive option for those seeking a high-fidelity long-haul airliner in FSX.
