Editorial

Although, like most others, I have moved onto the more modern flight simulators out there I still enjoy going back down memory lane and seeing what is on offer these days in terms of mods and changes for the older flight simulators like FS2004 and the like. Therefore, I was intrigued when I came across this unique and interesting mod – the NASA Space Challenge package. It seemed like something that, had I used it at the time, I would never have stopped using it! I downloaded the package to see what was included, and I have to say it’s one of the most enjoyable mods I’ve come across for FS2004 in terms of changing the terms of the entire process.

By adding in a whole new experience for those who want to take on NASA missions in an online environment, this can be the best way to start enjoying FS2004 in a whole new way. It comes with 2 fully usable aircraft – the Discovery and an international space station. Each model comes with fully working virtual cockpits and realistic paneling inside, as well as incredibly detailed textures throughout to really improve the level of realism that this can provide in the first place.

The Discovery also comes with three unique load outs that have various changes to them, allowing you to have a more unique kind of flight each time depending on what it is that you wish to do in the first place.

This package also provides you with a rally interesting addition of some NASA flights that start from the NASA Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. If you have, like me, an innate interest in the way that space systems work and what kind of missions you might be asked to undertake, then this is worth trying out. It gives you a totally new view of what FS2004 is capable of providing, and will ensure that you have the kind of additions that you need to really see the world from a whole new perspective!

It gives you a whole new way to get used to FS2004 and I found it was most fun when challenging with friends when trying it out, taking on the various missions and challenges which are provided. These are well structured and thoroughly enjoyable to be a part of, giving you plenty of information and depth about the task so that you can really enjoy the nature of the flight rather than just taking on aimless tasks that have no real rhyme or reason.

I find that this can be the main problem in many of these packages, and it was nice to have some well-constructed missions that felt like a lot of fun to be a part of, ensuring that I could take off and feel relatively comfortable in doing so knowing that I was going to take on something totally different to our typical flight simulator missions. Looking for something that’s a bit different to the normal sim stuff? Try this.
