FSX NASA Space Shuttle. The shuttle has been modified so that it takes off and lands like a regular airplane. It also has slats and thrust reversers to help with control. It is extremely maneuverable, and can reach high altitudes as well as cruising at the highest speed FSX will allow. Built with FSDS, the shuttle has fully animated exteriors, including opening cargo bay doors. Also uses a custom panel featuring all custom XML gauges. By Andy Johnston.

Editorial
Not everything that you will fly in FSX is going to be the same as usual – after all, aviation has taken in anything from tiny little kite devices to military bombers capable of flattening entire cities. This NASA Space Shuttle, however, certainly takes some beating in the originality stakes! As a project to take on I can only applaud the designers as it looks incredibly hard to do, but it’s an absolutely astounding product to add into your arsenal.
The overall attention to detail is absolutely sublime, and gives you that real feeling of control over something that really will fly totally different to your average aircraft. If it’s something unique that you are after, then this is the place to get started!
It controls like its literally floating and you can really maneuver this in any way that you wish, making flying around easier than ever before. It actually takes away a lot of the traditional difficulties that pilots might have, despite being incredibly powerful. Whilst it’s been modified to take like a normal plane – it would be expecting a bit much to see a rocket launch pad added in! – It gives you just about everything else that you could hope for when it comes to flying a space shuttle.
It’s attentive to details that really make the shuttle stand out, and it poses a significant change from the way that you would typically fly an aircraft in FSX. Its controls are very different and it can easily cruise at the highest speeds possible, and is capable of reaching the highest altitudes within the game.
Add in the amazing animations that have been included and you’ve really got one of the most innovative and enjoyable projects out there to take part in flying. Space shuttles are certainly a little different to what most of us would be used to flying so it can really spice things up for the FSX veterans out there!
Not only this, but the shuttle itself comes with a totally new set of animations that really make it look the part – it’s slats and thrust reversers will come alive and not only look great but will help keep the shuttle steady and make flight simple. It might feel a little too “easy” for some who are really used to tough flying, but in terms of excitement and originality it’s top of the pile.
This is well worth a look if you are sick of normal aircraft and want to really just cruise around the world at the highest possible altitude. This is one of the most enjoyable creations I’ve got installed for FSX, and it makes such a telling difference to the overall way that I engage with the simulator when using the software that it can feel like flying something completely foreign!
A little bit of a new challenge for the veterans, and something to totally blow the mind of the newbies – what more could you ask for?

A virtual cockpit would make it much better...
hello where should I put it
I didn't know this page existed until just now!
I created this aircraft a few years ago, and I'm so glad to hear from those who enjoyed it. Really makes my day, for all the time it takes to create add-ons like this.
