RAF 39 Squadron Canberra PR9
Textures of the Royal Air Force 39 Squadron English Electric Canberra PR9. In…
Royal Air Force 40 Squadron markings for the English Electric Canberra B2 recreate the RAF Upwood era with carefully matched camouflage, tail fin logos, and crisp squadron insignia that complement the aircraft’s classic lines and virtual cockpit glazing in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Requires John Young’s Canberra base model.
This repaint set brings to life the Royal Air Force 40 Squadron English Electric Canberra B2 during its posting at RAF Upwood, tailored for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It provides historically inspired markings, highlighting the aircraft’s classic design and the unit’s role within the Royal Air Force. Created by Dale Ashcroft utilizing John Young’s paint kit, this freeware release requires John Young’s Canberra base model (obtainable from Fly Away Simulation’s add-on library). The base package itself is not included.
Each texture layer meticulously represents the Canberra B2’s unique contours, from the distinctive circular fuselage cross-sections to the refined cockpit glazing. The markings authentically reflect 40 Squadron’s insignia, capturing the aesthetic present when the squadron operated out of RAF Upwood. Designers paid special attention to camouflage patterns and tail fin logos, ensuring visual fidelity under various illumination settings in the simulator.
The English Electric Canberra B2, first introduced in the early 1950s, gained recognition as a high-altitude bomber with remarkable maneuverability. In RAF service, 40 Squadron leveraged its rapid climb rate and mid-century avionics for tactical operations, making it a pivotal asset during that era of post-war aviation development. These new textures reflect that heritage, weaving together precision patches of color reminiscent of classic bomber liveries.
Upon installation, the textures immerse virtual pilots in authentic 1950s-era RAF styling, delivering an engaging experience whenever the Canberra B2 rolls onto the tarmac within Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
