Evolution of the 737 Classic Gmax Project

The development team originally started modeling the 737 series approximately two years ago using FS2000 and FSDS1. Their efforts soon shifted toward Gmax, allowing them to refine geometry, animations, and surface details. During this shift, the focus expanded to encompass the entire 737 Classic family—including the -300, -400, and -500 variants. This particular release showcases the -300, yet its design lineage connects to the equally capable -400 and -500 models.

Detailed Model Implementation

• Full Animations: Each major control surface is replicated, overseeing flight controls, landing gear retractions, and more. This extends to special features such as deployable airstairs and retractable landing lights.
• Accurate Exterior: The airframe has been carefully modeled, highlighting the 737 Classic’s distinctive engine inlets and characteristic fuselage shape.
• CFM56-3 Sound Package: For those seeking a heightened level of realism, the developers have compiled audio from multiple 737 sources. The result is a robust sound set reflecting the volume levels that flight crew experience without headsets.

Sound Configuration Note

Although these CFM56-3 recordings deliver highly authentic engine noise, anyone preferring a quieter experience can simply modify engine volume in the simulator’s audio settings. The development team advises adjusting internal FS volume controls rather than requesting a toned-down sound set.

Special Animations and Custom Controls

Door Operation:

To access the forward cabin door, press Shift+E as with standard FS aircraft. This is the same command used universally in the simulator for primary exits.

Airstairs Deployment:

Assign a key to the “wing fold” function to extend the built-in airstairs from beneath the fuselage. Be aware that activating the airstairs also sets the simulator’s wing-fold state, so it is recommended only while on the ground.

Retractable Canoe Lights:

Because 737-100 through -500 variants include extendable landing lights on the flap canoes, a “tailhook” control must be mapped to raise and lower them. This lets you toggle the lights without interfering with other systems.
