This repaint package brings an Ozark Air Lines theme to the default Douglas DC-3. It is offered as freeware and was carefully crafted by Ed Knapp. Intended for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, it preserves the unique visual details of the airline’s historical presence. The files provided here only include the liveries; you will need to acquire the base freeware model from the Fly Away Simulation mod library.
Distinctive Exterior Styling
Ozark Air Lines, once recognized for its regional service across the Midwest, continues to captivate vintage aviation enthusiasts. This repaint aims to recreate the carrier’s signature colors on the DC-3’s fuselage and tail surfaces. Due to texture mapping limitations, aligning the livery precisely on both sides posed a considerable challenge. Nevertheless, every effort was made to match the stripes and logos to the iconic look of the airline’s original fleet.

Reflections on the DC-3
The Douglas DC-3, originally introduced in the 1930s, transformed commercial aviation by offering a balance of efficiency, payload capacity, and passenger comfort. Early routes benefitted from its reliable range, while passengers enjoyed amenities such as heated cabins and running water in the onboard lavatory. Ozark Air Lines connected smaller cities throughout its network, leveraging aircraft like the DC-3 for dependable regional services. This historic repaint attempts to pay homage to the airline’s pioneering role in short-haul flight.
Step-by-Step Setup
To install the textures, follow these instructions carefully:
- Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to a temporary location.
- Move the folder named texture.ozark into the “Douglas_DC3” directory, typically found at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\Douglas_DC3 - Open the aircraft.cfg file located in the same Douglas_DC3 directory with a text editor.
- Insert the following lines, ensuring you replace x in
[fltsim.x]
with the next sequential number:
[fltsim.x] title=Douglas DC-3 Ozark sim=Douglas_DC3 model= panel= sound= texture=ozark kb_checklists=Douglas_DC3_check kb_reference=Douglas_DC3_ref atc_id_color= ui_manufacturer=Douglas ui_type="DC-3 ui_variation="Ozark Air Lines" description="The Douglas DC-3 revolutionized air transportation and airline service during the 1930s and 1940s. It was a luxury airliner that boasted cabin heat and running water in its on-board lavatory. With the right balance of efficiency, range, speed, and payload, the DC-3 was the first aircraft to earn a profit for its owners just by carrying passengers. The hero of early airlines, a handful of DC-3s are still at work today."
Notes and Credits
This repaint is presented by Ed Knapp and reflects significant effort to reproduce the Ozark Air Lines design within the parameters of the default DC-3. While alignment on both sides can be tricky, the end result delivers an appealing classic appearance. Be sure to verify that you have the proper base freeware DC-3 model installed from the Fly Away Simulation repository to ensure everything displays correctly.
