This repaint provides a meticulously adjusted visualization of an Allegheny Airlines Martin 202A from around 1958, specifically designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. It addresses earlier inaccuracies by refining the N number placement on the wings. These textures are created by Gary Harper and rely on the freeware Martin 202 model by Dee Waldron, originally distributed via California Classics. To utilize this repaint, ensure you have the base aircraft, which can be obtained from the Fly Away Simulation mod library.

Allegheny Airlines and the Martin 202A

Allegheny Airlines, a regional carrier that later evolved through various mergers, once employed the Martin 202A for short-haul routes. The Martin 2-0-2 series was introduced shortly after World War II as an unpressurized twin-engine commercial aircraft. Although it arrived with promising intentions, structural issues in the initial design forced subsequent modifications, resulting in the 2-0-2A variant with strengthened components and operational adjustments. Despite challenging beginnings, many airlines persisted with the type, benefiting from its capability to maintain decent performance at lower cruising levels—even if its reputation remained affected by earlier setbacks.

Visual Highlights and Technical Updates

This repaint employs accurate color palettes and historically consistent markings to replicate Allegheny’s mid-century livery. The textures specifically refine the identification number location on the wings to align with documented reference material from the late 1950s. By building upon the Martin 202A flight model (using a compatible .air file sourced from the freeware base package), these updated textures retain authentic handling characteristics.

description=After WWII, Martin introduced the unpressurized 2-0-2 in 1947, but structural deficiencies led to remanufacturing as the improved 2-0-2A model. Original operators included Northwest Orient, LAN-Chile, and TWA. While safety concerns marred its image, the reborn 2-0-2A maintained reasonable performance at lower altitudes, serving regional carriers like Allegheny Airlines with careful operational restrictions.
