This freeware release brings an enhanced American Airlines Boeing 787-9 edition for FSX, built upon a refined CamSim V4 base model by creator Camil Valiquette. The newly implemented wing root shape, expanded passenger door dimensions, and a set of custom animations significantly elevate visual fidelity and immersion. Additionally, the ground service features are more extensive, showcasing trailers that attach and detach from their respective trucks and various static objects, thus creating an authentic environment for virtual airline operations.

Notable Refinements in This Version

  • Revised Wing-Root Layout: Optimizes aerodynamic contours for a realistic flight profile.
  • Enlarged Passenger Doors: Incorporates wider door geometry (noted as [M1] and [M2] in simulator triggers) and updated window alignments in the cockpit and cabin.
  • Additional Air Duct Animations: Enhances external detail with meticulously placed vents and ducts.
  • Reconfigured Satellite & Communication Antennas: Improves visual accuracy in line with the real 787-9 layout.
  • Expanded AGS (Animated Ground Servicing): Includes more complex vehicle interactions, where trucks attach or detach trailers, further adding realism to turnaround procedures.

Aircraft Handling & Ground Animations

This aircraft incorporates several special controls within FSX for managing doors and service equipment. Below are the combined commands for reference:

Shift + E
Opens and closes the passenger air stairs door (labeled M2).
Shift + E + 2
Activates the forward passenger entrance (M1) and prompts default FSX-based ground features.
Shift + D
Deploys or retracts the cargo doors.
Shift + C
Starts or ends various AGS animations, including trailer hookups.

In order to map these commands effectively, navigate to the simulator’s options and ensure the Wing fold/unfold function is assigned to Shift + C and the Tail hook up/down function is assigned to Shift + D.

Installation Steps for FSX

  1. Extract the aircraft folder into the FSX > Airplanes directory. This package is self-contained, so no additional base models are required.
  2. If you have not previously installed any CamSim airplanes with AGS, unzip the Effects.zip file into your main FSX folder. This places the necessary night lighting effects in the Effects directory.

Key Points on the 787-9 and American Airlines Livery

  • The 787-9 Platform: A next-gen twinjet designed for long-haul routes, boasting advanced materials and fuel-efficiency.
  • American Airlines Paint Scheme: Reflects the airline’s contemporary silver and tail-stripe design, carefully reproduced on this model for FSX.

This integrated package offers a free and comprehensive option for simmers who seek to experience the latest iteration of the Boeing 787 family under American Airlines colors. All files, including CamSim’s distinctive AGS elements, come preassembled and ready for installation. The developer, Camil Valiquette, grants permission for free usage, extending a high-quality simulation experience without additional purchases.
