KLM Royal Dutch Airlines introduces its updated Boeing 737-800 (registration PH-BXW), nicknamed “Patrijs,” presented here in the carrier’s newly adopted exterior design. This repaint, offered by creators Tenkuu Developers Studio (TDS) and painted by Elmar Westra, aligns with the airline’s fleet-wide modernization that completed around 2017. It brings to Microsoft Flight Simulator X simmers a carefully rendered visual enhancement paired with authentic technical features.

Authentic Appearance with Updated Branding

Every detail of the aircraft’s striking KLM livery has been reproduced accurately, from the familiar sky-blue fuselage and tail markings to the intricacies of the updated titles. By aligning with KLM’s official brand identity, this repaint achieves a realistic finish, capturing the airline’s well-known aesthetic. The textures are rendered in 32-bit, ensuring sharp resolution and true-to-life color transitions.

Reflective Surfaces and Moving Components

Beyond visual fidelity, the model provides dynamic shine (an effect adding reflective realism) and opening doors, including cargo compartments, which reflect operational procedures used on the ground. Incorporating fully independent suspension makes ground movements more plausible. Additionally, dynamic flexing wings create subtle yet visible motion responses in turbulent airflow, highlighting key aerodynamic factors of short- to medium-haul Boeing 737 missions.

Performance and Handling Upgrades

The accurate flight dynamics have been fine-tuned to reflect realistic behavior within the simulator’s flight model. This adaptation allows for consistent handling, whether maneuvering at lower speeds during approach or cruising at typical altitudes. With precise trim animation and gear steering, takeoffs and landings remain smooth, providing confidence across a breadth of flight phases. TDS has also included a refined flight deck environment (in conjunction with their base package) which many pilots appreciate for training or recreational flights in the 737 Next Generation series.

Seamless Integration Process

  • Extract the downloaded archive to a folder of your choice.
  • Locate the “Texture.KLM_PH-BXW” folder and transfer it to your “TDS Boeing 737-800” directory (or the equivalent name used for your TDS 737-800).
  • Open the Aircraft.cfg file (found in that same aircraft folder) with a text editor, then insert the following lines:

description=The Boeing 737NG is Boeing's third generation of the 737 series designed for short to medium routes. It debuted in 1996 and entered common service in 1998, accommodating between 110 and 210 passengers depending on the variant. It is frequently adapted for cargo transport, specialized maritime patrol duties, military airborne surveillance, and business jet usage. Over 4,500 airframes have been deployed worldwide since launch. Textures by Elmar Westra.

Replace “XX” with the next available sequence number in the Aircraft.cfg. With those steps completed, you will have a new repaint slot for the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines 737-800.

Base Model Requirement

Please note that this repaint is specifically designed for the Tenkuu Developers Studio (TDS) Boeing 737-800 base pack. You will need to acquire that freeware model separately, and the necessary package can be found in the Fly Away Simulation library. Once the official TDS pack is in place, simply follow the instructions above to integrate this KLM livery successfully.

Additional Remarks on the Boeing 737 Family

KLM has employed the Boeing 737 series for a range of European routes, valuing its optimal fuel economy and reliability. The “Patrijs” nickname underscores KLM’s tradition of giving aircraft bird-themed monikers. This conventional short-to-medium range platform offers flexibility in route coverage, often connecting smaller regional airports to the airline’s European hub. By adopting TDS’s carefully developed model, you can enjoy the meticulous detailing of the 737 Next Generation series within Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
