MSFS Bawan Airstrip (BWJ), Papua New Guinea Scenery

Bawan Airstrip (BWJ) in Papua New Guinea arrives as a high-detail bush strip built for precise short-field flying, with a steep hillside setting, tight approaches, and realistic terrain shaping around the 755-foot runway at roughly 4,500 feet. Fully compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020, it delivers an intense one-way-in, one-way-out challenge.

Expert Overview

Bawan Airstrip (BWJ) for MSFS captures the dramatic landscape of Papua New Guinea, delivering a hair-raising 755-foot runway perched at 4500 feet elevation. Its hillside approach, surrounded by steep terrain, allows no room for a go-around, making it an unforgiving location for virtual pilots. Having tested this mod firsthand, I can confirm the developer has meticulously replicated the harsh environment and natural scenery, preserving every bit of that real-world thrill.

This recreation not only provides an extraordinary short-field landing challenge but also enhances the sense of immersion found in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. From its accurate topography to the striking visual cues of the region, Bawan Airstrip pushes flight simulation enthusiasts to refine their technique while savoring the breathtaking beauty of Papua New Guinea. It is unquestionably a must-try for those seeking a fresh test of their piloting skills.

This scenery pack covers Bawan Airstrip (BWJ) in Papua New Guinea.  It's a super short strip and will make for some challenging landings for sure!  A very obscure strip but covered in as much detail by the developer and fully compatible with the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 release.

The airstrip of Bawan depicted in Microsoft Flight Simulator after installing the mod.The strip itself it seems was never designed to be safe or functional however it does exist in the real world and the developer has tried their best to make it appear as accurate as possible in MSFS.

The runway length is very, very short (if you can call it a runway) and the strip itself is buried in the hillside between hills the developer has even noted "no chance of a go-around".  If you land there - you better be landing!

This is what makes it a fun and challenging strip to use in MSFS - but perhaps try some ultralights there first to really get a feel for it!

Developer's Description

Very little is known about the Bawan airstrip (BWJ) in Papua New Guinea, the small number of pilots who have flown into the strip refuse to discuss what the location is like except they all say don't land short!

What we do know is that the strip is short, and I mean very short, 755' short! at an elevation of 4500' located about 12Nm NE of Nadzab regional airport.

The strip is buried in the side of a hill surrounded by other hills, one way in from the South and one way out with no chance of a go-around.

Why anyone would go there in real life is beyond reason, even going into the strip in MSFS is scary enough!
