Expert Overview

Aziana Airstrip (AYLA) in Papua New Guinea offers a thrilling bush flying environment for Microsoft Flight Simulator enthusiasts, featuring a short 975-foot dirt runway with a steep 18-20% upslope. From my experience, the handcrafted modifications beautify the surrounding terrain, correcting river layouts and refining the airstrip’s elevation to match real-world conditions. The challenging landing approach ensures every flight remains engaging, and it shines for those who enjoy piloting STOL-capable aircraft like the Kodiak.

This mod is part of a broader series that highlights the rugged terrain of Papua New Guinea, providing an authentic look and feel while maintaining impressive performance in the simulator. In testing, I found it especially appealing for bush flight aficionados seeking more realism in their adventures. It’s a well-crafted scenery upgrade that highlights the spirit of remote aviation and brings a heightened sense of accomplishment to every successful takeoff and touchdown.

A fun and exciting scenery pack for MSFS featuring Aziana Airstrip (AYLA) in Papua New Guinea.  This pack is from a range of Papua New Guinea released by the developer and it is perfect for bush flights and something more challenging in light aircraft.

Image shows the scenery pack after installing in Microsoft Flight Simulator. The strip itself has a long upslope to the runway so makes for some fun landings and challenging takeoffs.

The surrounding region close to the airstrip has been hand-modified/terraformed to fix some default Microsoft scenery errors and also to make the scenery more true-to-life.

Developer's Description

Aziana airstrip (AYLA) is a dirt strip in Papua New Guinea 975' long with an 18-20% upslope. Get it right and it's relatively easy to fly into but get it wrong, well we won't consider that option :)

The airstrip is serviced by the Missionary Bush pilot team and the Kodiak is an ideal place to get into the strip.

The area has been terraformed to match the real world and the river under the approach has been terraformed to remove the ugly mess that MS makes of rivers.
