Enhance your virtual fleet with this freeware Tarom Boeing 737-800 (YR-BGR) add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Developed by Project OpenSky and repainted by Mathiëu Vos, this package brings a detailed rendition of the real-world Romanian flag carrier’s distinctive narrow-body airliner, complete with an authentic livery and faithful flight dynamics. It includes the entire base model, so everything is preconfigured for seamless integration.
Visual Modeling and Exterior Highlights
Tarom Boeing 737-800 in flight.
- Wing Flex Simulation: Elastic wing behavior under aerodynamic loads is modeled accurately.
- Fully Dynamic Control Surfaces: Each surface, including ailerons and rudder, responds to simulated airflow.
- Animated Gear and Bogies: The landing gear includes correct tilt and rolling-wheel mechanics.
- Reflective Textures: Different reflective properties enhance realism across fuselage and flight surfaces.
- Transparent Navigation Lenses: Nav lights feature see-through housings for extra detail.
Realistic Flight Dynamics
Project OpenSky engineered the flight characteristics based on genuine performance data and input from real pilots, ensuring credible handling across a range of altitudes and speeds. The Boeing 737-800 design (part of the Next Generation series) is known for its excellent fuel efficiency and adaptability on short to medium routes, and those traits are captured here with precise engine and aerodynamic modeling.
Cabin and Door Operations
Tarom’s interior configuration is partially represented by animated passenger portals. You can activate the primary passenger door by pressing Shift + E, which adds extra immersion for ground operations and gate procedures.
Night Lighting and Illumination
This repaint showcases the airline’s official color scheme, complemented by full night lighting. Landing lights are visible from the cockpit, and the reflective cockpit windows contribute to an authentic nighttime ambience.
Installation Workflow
To install, simply extract the provided Texture folder into your “Project Opensky Boeing 737-800” directory within your “Airplanes” folder. Then, open the aircraft.cfg file, paste the included configuration entries, and save. The add-on will appear in your aircraft selection menu once you restart Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
