Delve into a refined livery adaptation showcasing a vivid red, black, and polished metal scheme for the renowned De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver freeware add-on. Created by Henry William, it seamlessly integrates with the default aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This unique repaint pays homage to the Beaver’s rugged bush-flying heritage while adding a striking new exterior finish. Although the base package is not included here, it is readily obtainable in the Fly Away Simulation mod library.

A Closer Exploration of the DHC-2 Beaver’s Background

The De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, frequently described as a trailblazer in the realm of short takeoff and landing (STOL) operations, has long served bush pilots in austere environments. Its robust airframe, accommodating landing gear, and adaptable configuration (including floats, wheels, or skis) make it a prime contender for frontier flying and utility tasks. Pilots recognize its reliable single-engine design, which offers remarkable performance on uneven runways or remote water strips, reinforcing why it is often labeled a “workhorse” in the aviation community.

Features of This Red and Black Livery

  • Striking Exterior: Emphasizes the red and black overlay for a bold accent on the fuselage, complemented by metallic highlights on specific panel segments.
  • Detailed Finishes: Showcases reflective metal surfaces that capture unique lighting effects during varying simulation conditions.
  • Fully Compatible: Designed specifically for the stock Beaver, allowing smooth integration without extraneous modifications.

Step-by-Step Installation Procedure

  1. Preparation and Extraction: Unzip the repaint package to a convenient folder on your desktop.
  2. Folder Placement: Copy the texture.mrb folder into the default DHC-2 Beaver directory. By default, it is at:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\DeHavilland_Beaver_DHC2
  3. Default Tail Number Adjustment: When selecting the aircraft within the simulator’s menu, open “Details” and deselect “show tail number” to remove any overlapping registration text.
  4. Aircraft Configuration File Update: Edit the aircraft.cfg file by appending the following text at the bottom. Replace xx with the next available number in your fltsim sequence:

Additional Notes

  • This livery was authored by Henry William, who has meticulously crafted the repaint to preserve authentic details of De Havilland Canada’s storied bush plane.
  • Remember that this download only provides textures. The necessary base model, part of the original Microsoft Flight Simulator X installation, exists online in the Fly Away Simulation library if required.
  • Testing in variable weather conditions is recommended, as the heightened reflectivity will amplify how light and shadow play on the aircraft’s surfaces.

Enjoy the immersive bush-flying atmosphere brought to life by this new color configuration, and experience the true essence of the legendary Beaver in a dazzling style.
