This repaint pack integrates a USAF-style livery onto the renowned Alphasim English Electric Canberra for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Created by Henry William, it places an authentic United States Air Force scheme (identified as “456”) on this pioneering British jet-powered tactical bomber. It preserves the aircraft’s heritage design while reflecting unique American paintwork inspired by the Martin B-57 collaborations.
Detailed Textures and Visual Refinements
Henry William meticulously crafted high-resolution textures to capture the distinctive markings of the U.S. Air Force’s adapted Canberra variant. Each panel line is mapped carefully, ensuring natural shadows and reflections across the sleek fuselage and wing surfaces. Enthusiasts of vintage military jets will notice how the repaint highlights key structural elements, including the canopy framing and engine intakes, without overshadowing the base model’s original geometry.

Key Historical Background
The English Electric Canberra entered Royal Air Force service in the early 1950s, attaining remarkable altitude and speed records for its era. Across the Atlantic, the design influenced the Martin B-57 program, which modified the airframe to fit specific USAF requirements. Over its operational lifespan, the Canberra served pivotal roles, encompassing reconnaissance, nuclear strike, and tactical bombing missions. This repaint pays homage to those transatlantic engineering efforts, providing virtual pilots an opportunity to explore how the design might have appeared under U.S. service markings.
File Integration and Configuration Steps
Extracting and Organizing Files
1) Unzip this package to a convenient folder of your choice.
2) Locate the “texture.456” folder and place it inside your Alphasim Canberra directory. By default, this can be found under:
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\ALPHA EE Canberra
Editing Aircraft.cfg
Next, open the aircraft.cfg file in a text editor. Append the following block at the end of the existing entries, incrementing the “XX” to the next available numeric value:
[fltsim.xx]

description=© ALPHA Simulations 2005\n\nThe English Electric Canberra was first flown in 1950, and yet there were still versions of this fine aircraft in service at the outset of the 21st century. An excellent design overall, the type was also adopted and manufactured in the United States as the Martin B-57. A large number of variants were produced, including high-altitude reconnaissance, attack, nuclear strike, night interdiction, and trainers. The type was initially intended to fly very high and fast and was thus equipped with no defensive armament. Several speed and altitude records were garnered by the Canberra in the years immediately following its introduction into service. In 1957, a rocket-boosted Canberra flew to over 70,000 feet, a staggering altitude at the time.

The repaint references the sound folder from David Garwood’s Hawker Hunter. Unless you have this specific aircraft installed, you will need to alter the “sound=alias=” line to match an available sound set in your simulator. After editing, save your changes, and you are ready to fly.
Notable Aircraft Characteristics
The Alphasim Canberra model showcases a dual-engine configuration, enabling excellent climb rates and medium-range mission capabilities. Distinct trailing-edge control surfaces further improve handling. Once airborne, the Canberra’s classic bubble canopy provides clear visibility, especially helpful during formation flying or strategic bombing practice.

In-Cockpit Atmosphere
Virtual pilots will appreciate how accurately the Alphasim interior panels reflect the original Canberra cockpit configuration. Instruments covering altitude, engine performance, and navigation are labeled in a logical layout. The unobstructed forward view invites careful approach calculations while maintaining the versatility needed for varied mission profiles.
Repaint by Henry William, adapted for the Alphasim FSX English Electric Canberra model. Enjoy your flight in this tribute to a remarkable bomber cherished by flight simulation enthusiasts for its balanced performance and historical importance in both British and American service.
