Cincinnati Union Terminal In The Modern Era. The famous terminal is a Cincinnati, Ohio (OH) landmark. File will place the terminal and mall at correct coordinates aligned with default scenery depiction of Ezzard Charles Avenue and the Queensgate yard. The Cincinnati Union Terminal is one of the most famous of art deco designed buildings in the world. As a hub of rail traffic in the central US, Cincinnati boasted many travellers through its station. Some of the renowned murals from the rotunda are located in the CVG airport terminal building. The huge dome is a well known aerial landmark as well and a strong feature of the Cincinnati skyline. During World War II the dome was painted black for fear enemy planes could spot it so easily. This model was created in Google sketchup with phototextures both original and from Cincinnati Museum Center, the current owners and tenants of the building. It makes the west side of Cincinnati much easier to spot when VFR. A visit to CUT and the Museum Center is a MUST if you are ever in Cincinnati.
INSTALLATION:
A. TO PLACE THE MODEL IN FSX:
1. Download the CUTmodern_fsx.zip file to a temporary folder and extract all the files.
2. Place or copy all of the files in the folder labelled "scenery" into the FSX/Addon Scenery/ scenery folder.
3. Place or copy all of the files in the folder labelled "texture" into the FSX/Texture folder.
4. Turn on Flight Simulator X and the building should be in place.
B. TO PLACE THE MODEL YOURSELF:
NOTE: This library was created with Instant Scenery2 but it may work other programs. I will use Instant Scenery as an example.
1. Place the file CUT_CincUnionTerm_FSX.bgl (or a copy) found in the Placeable Libraries_FSX/scenery folder into the scenery folder of your object placer program (e.g. FSX/Addon Scenery/AddOn InstantScenery Libraries/scenery).
2. Place all of the bmp texture files found in the Placeable Libraries_FSX/texture folder into the texture folder of your object placer program (e.g. FSX/Addon Scenery/AddOn InstantScenery Libraries/texture).
3. The file is named CUT_CincUnionTerm_FSX and should be found in the drop down box of object libraries when you start your program. There are 2 objects: one is the terminal building, the other is the mall. The mall is a Google Earth phototexture. It best matches the building at a scale of 1.3 (the building stays at scale 1.0). Make adjustments so
the building fits best on top of its image on the mall phototexture.
CREDITS:
Google Sketchup and Google Earth for model creation and placement.
Cincinnati Museum Center for some of the photos used as phototextures.
The ever essential ModelConverterX without which none of this would be possible.
