This freeware release brings a robust Lancair IV P Turboprop adaptation into Microsoft Flight Simulator X, carefully designed to reflect the remarkable real-world kit aircraft’s speed and elegance. It merges Robert Christopher’s original Lancair Legacy 2000 model for older simulators with multiple refinements and texture improvements by Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft. Expect a top cruising speed approximating 325 knots and a pressurized cabin layout that aligns with the cutting-edge Lancair IV P design introduced by Lance Neibauer’s Lancair company, established back in 1984.
Aircraft Heritage and Engineering
This custom build stems from Lancair’s longstanding tradition of producing kit-built planes with advanced aerodynamics. The IV P variant incorporates pressurization [cabin pressurization system ensures comfort at high altitudes] and a turboprop powerplant, making it ideal for pilots seeking performance together with efficient flight at a wide range of altitudes. Lance Neibauer’s vision set new standards for kit-plane engineering, and this freeware rendition channels that spirit into the simulator environment.
Technical Modifications by Mark Rooks
Mark Rooks of RDG Aircraft introduced numerous improvements, blending modern visual enhancements with updated flight dynamics. The integration of default gauges streamlines the setup, while the new 2D and 3D cockpit configurations ensure authenticity for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Although many changes have been implemented, highlight features include:
- A fully refined 2D panel with essential flight instruments in logical locations.
- Enhanced 3D cockpit arrangement offering clear instrument readability.
- Adjustments to match the turboprop performance characteristics, reflecting a higher cruise speed.
- Updated textures and a transparent canopy, showcasing refined exterior details.
Getting Everything Into Your Simulator
Because this package is self-contained with all necessary components, installation is straightforward. You can manage it by following these orderly steps:
- Unzip the downloaded folder to a temporary directory on your computer.
- Locate the unzipped folder named Lancair IV P Turbo Prop and move it into your primary aircraft directory. For Microsoft Flight Simulator X, this can be found by default at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes.
- Verify that your newly placed folder holds six critical items: aircraft.cfg, .air file, model, panel, sound, and texture. This structure ensures the simulator recognizes the add-on properly.
- Note that the 2D and 3D panels rely on default indicators and switches, meaning you do not have to install separate gauges.
Avoiding Pitfalls
Make sure all files unpack completely. If anything is missing, unzip again and confirm each element is placed in the correct folder. Also, back up any original simulator data before overwriting or modifying existing files.

All core modeling for this Lancair release is by Robert Christopher, with extensive modifications and texture work by Mark “Fire Ball” Rooks of RDG Aircraft. Installation follows the above process, so proceed with confidence and enjoy the newly outfitted turboprop for agile, high-altitude flights. Have fun exploring the boundaries of simulated aviation with this speedy kit plane.

Does not work with P3D V4.4, and is not a Lancair IV.
Excuse me, the Lancair IV-P, I thought stood for a 4 passenger aircraft. The IV-P stands for 4 seat, Pressurized!
So, you have an IV model and an IV-P, both are 4 seat aircraft, the -P is a 4 seat aircraft with Pressurization! Neither to be confused with the much smaller Lancair Legacy!
THIS IS NOT A LANCAIR IV-P download!!!! Don't waste your time! It is a Lancair Legacy 2000, which wouldn't be too bad for most, but don't count on a download that won't offer you a Tach or Manifold Pressure to go along with a high-performance aircraft! Mark, what do you think the IV-P stands for? I would guess it might mean a 4 passenger aircraft, let's see you get 2 passengers to sit on the package shelf of the 2 seater Legacy! Another suggestion, try flying some of the uploads you provide us and see if you are satisfied with your "end product!"
My search continues for the Lancair IV-P download!
