Meigs Field Scenery.

Meigs Field KCGX, Chicago
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dedicated to the people who were left stranded in Meigs on March 30 2003.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Many people have good memories about Meigs Field: If you're like me, you probably did your first take off, landing and traffic pattern around Meigs. Maybe you just like the scenery. What ever is your reason, you probably didn't like what happened on March 30 in 2003, when Mayod Daley contracted private construction crews to dig a big X on the runway: Meigs Field was now closed. This left 16 planes stranded on Meigs, with no runway operating runway to take off. Many of the incoming flights had to be diverted. Later, the sixteen stranded planes were allowed to take off from the main taxiway.
--------------------------------------------------------------
About the UPDATE:
Meigs Field now includes a updated AFCAD file (adds runway lights, helipad start points, Chicago Departure and Chicago Approach frequencies are now added).
AI traffic is now included!
12th Street Beach house is now removed, so the approaches to runway 18 won't be so tricky.
Installation problems now fixed (thanks to Bob Familton for letting me know).
--------------------------------------------------------------
Installing the airport:
Installing the airport is easy: Just extract this folder to a temp file, and place the Meigs Field (not the contents) folder in the [FSX root directory]/Addon Scenery.
Before starting FSX, go to [FSX Root Folder]/Scenery/World/Scenery and add the file Traffic_KCGX.bgl to the folder.
Then, start up FSX, and go to Options/Scenery Library. Then, select Add... and select the Meigs Field folder you previously placed on the Addon Scenery folder. Click ok.
Then, still on the Scenery Libtrary menu, check the Addon Scenery tab. Click ok and you're ready to go!
--------------------------------------------------------------
About the airport:
Meigs Field sits on a man-made peninsula, with a single runway with approximatley 3.900 feet long and 150 feet wide, perfect for practicing!
It's also has four public helipads on the south side of the airport. Near the end of runway 36, is the famous 12th Street Beach house, so be careful when taking off or approaching runway 18.
There's also a pier between the peninsula and "Chicago itself", so there's lot of boats sailing around the airport.
There's a VOR near the airport on the frequency 109.40 for the approach on runway 36. If the active is 18, you can use the VOR to enter the traffic pattern.
--------------------------------------------------------------
About the package:
This scenery package adds (again) Meigs Field to FSX. Based on aereal photos, I've managed to reconstruct Meigs Field from scratch. All of the terminal buildings are there, but, since I don't live near the airport, I had to guess a little with the airport parking spaces.
Other than that, I believe that all of the taxiways and aprons are accuratley placed.
The frequencies are correct, according to the website "Friends of Meigs Field"
ASOS and tower services are provided, taxiway signs are also placed. There IS AI traffic now (many thanks to Dick Stellweg)!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs:
There are no known bugs.

I get the same problem, Steve. I always crash as soon as I get near Meigs - like hitting a wall. Also, when I try to start from Meigs there is an immediate crash message.

I've tried re-installing several times but without solving the problem. I use FSX Steam.

Just installed Meig's Field. Installed OK but when I try an approach landing (several times now) the plane crashes. I am still at 2000 ft . It is like there is an invisible wall around the whole airport. Any ideas?

Thank you for Meigs Field. Good memories growing up with MS Flight Sim.

I still can't believe Mayor Daly (stupid liberal LOL.) did that in the middle of the night. My mom and brother are native Chicagoans and I've been there too. In 1973 to visit my Grandparents (Grampa was a well known doctor there) and in 1978 when I was 12 and remember meigs very well.
