simTECH Buy Out

Posted on
simTECHThis is to announce the sale of "simTECH Flight Design Ltd." to an entity that will make itself known in the near future. Simtech Flight Design Ltd was perused and engaged in an offer to buy out the name, domain, and titles. It was however negotiated that all MSFS add-ons developed by Simtech Flight Design Ltd will remain in the copyright domain of Thomas J. Wood, founder and operator of Simtech Flight Design Ltd.
The new owner is an aviation company that is developing new aviation training technologies and wanted a name that described what they felt was their speciality. They are not interested in MSFS or development of home PC based or light home industry software development.

Does this affect the add-ons of Simtech? Yes they do. The new owners have asked and have given a grace period to have all simTECH add-ons removed from the intranet to the best ability of Tom Wood so that the name will not be associated with any thing but their new software and to cut down on any future confusion in the markets they will be active in. So over the next two weeks I-Tom Wood former owner of Simtech will be asking the main flightsim community support web sites to respectfully remove any add-ons with the name Simtech Flight Design and wait for the new updates and the reposting of the add-ons under a new corporate brand name.

Having said all of the above I would like to stress, THIS DOES NOT CHANGE ANY THING...really. Just a name change.

I have retained the right to my flightsim copyrights and when I do the reposting of the new updated add-ons, I will not change any of the mappings for the various paints and additions other fine artists have contributed to my add-ons. I would suggest that all of you go now and get the simTECH add-ons while you still can. I will wait until the second to last day of the two week grace period to ask the main web sites to pull down the add-ons.

Will I be retiring? Not on your life. I have many add-ons on the burner and will continue to move foreword in my designs and contributions to the flight sim community.

Simtech simply out grew what I wanted to do with it; it was much more than an add-on company. What I started as a little pet project to have fun with in my spare time grew into a software company that was under the umbrella of a much bigger engineering company that was cutting new ground in other software developments. Simtech was simply under that umbrella and was scooped up on the buy out of all of my other companies by the new entity that wanted the software and the simTECH brand name.

Not to worry, I am here and so will be my add-ons, all of the old ones will be revamped and loaded onto a new web site that will be announced in the near future. The team is sound and here and happy with the new change. So look forward to new products from the same old friendly folks but jut with a new look and a new out look.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all of out supporters over the years we have been here. You have made our add-ons a joy to produce and we look foreword to supplying you with many new add-ons in the future.

Thomas Wood
Former Founder of Simtech Flight Design Ltd

Tom, thank you for the explanation. I only recently ran into your FS add-ons (for FS9). About 20 years ago I went through a similar situation wherein a group wanted my corp name (Information Systems Development, Inc.). They wanted me to join their team in designing and developing a system which required my design tools (software). They gave me 40% of the "new" company (using my corpname), but after two years of successful development (confirmed by their outside analyst they held a meeting and out voted my interest. I was forced out of the industry for five years. In the tech world five years is a lifetime. I lost my cutting edge and could not re-enter the marketability of my product.

So I'm very pleased to learn that you were able to hold on to you intellectual properties and FS products.
