I love this Beechcraft Starship. It's sad that the real version did not make it, being such a beautiful futuristic design, a breakthrough from the old look.
I did an FSrepaint of it and turned it into a MUFON livery, registration N2UFO just for grins. Any UFO investigator would be proud to arrive in this plane.
It flies great, I like the original flight dynamics over the new ones, it seems easier to keep the plane level.
The virtual cockpit does not work, looks awful, but the 2D panel that comes with it from the Boeing 737-800 works good enough to fly the plane.
The nonfunctional virtual panel looks awful but you can delete the .bmp and .dds panel from the texture folder and it leaves a black outline.
The cool thing about the 2D panel is if you open only the 2 main flight displays and put them at the bottom right of the screen, you open up lots of windshield glass to look through and have a great view of the scenery.
You can adjust the view to drop the black section out of the view. I would love to edit out the black outline and replace it with clear glass, I am trying to figure out how to do this.
The Approach hold on the autopilot does not work, the plane takes a nosedive when you turn on approach hold. To land, fly by the stick, turn on the main panel view. Set airspeed to 150 knots. Drop full flaps and the landing gear. Keep the speed at 150 to touchdown.
You will see 2 center window posts, one from the plane texture itself, one from the 2D main panel. With the speed, flaps, and gear set, adjust the view to where the black outline of the virtual panel is just visible between the center posts. as you drop the nose to stay on the glideslope you will have to raise/lower the view to keep the black outline just visible between the posts.
As long as you keep the speed 140 to 170 and view set, fly the plane to where the touchdown end of the runway is barely above the main panel. This will keep you on the glideslope.
With all that said, I love this plane and fly it a lot. With this Beech Starship, you are qualified to pull up beside the airliners at the gate and say "I may be smaller than you but don't I look cool."
