This package provides a high-resolution exterior repaint of Buffalo Airways’ distinctive Lockheed L-188 (C-FBAQ). Originally developed by Team FS KBT, this particular repaint by Fabio Cabral (fscabral) delivers crisp visual fidelity through DXT5 textures, making it suitable for those seeking an upgraded rendition of the Electra in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Buffalo Airways, based in Canada’s Northwest Territories, is well-known for operating classic airframes, including the L-188, in both passenger and cargo configurations.
High-Fidelity L-188 Texturing
- Wide-ranging details: This repaint brings subtle panel lines, rivet patterns, and weathering marks to life, all showcased in HD.
- Optimized performance settings: Textures are batched in DXT5 for efficient loading and smooth frame rates.
- Historical significance: The Lockheed L-188 Electra was first introduced in the late 1950s, featuring turboprop power plants. Buffalo Airways still relies on these rugged airframes for specialized operations.

Placement of Repaint Files
- 1. Texture Folder Setup
- Move the texture.buffaloHD folder into your ELEC_PASS directory within the base L-188 installation. You must have the original Team FS KBT package (L-188_ELECTRA_X.ZIP) installed beforehand.
- 2. Aircraft Configuration
- Open your aircraft.cfg file and insert a new [fltsim.x] section. Update "x" to the next sequential number. Ensure entries match the format below:
[fltsim.x]

FSX HD Configuration
- Texture resolution edit: Access your FSX.cfg file and look for the [GRAPHICS] section. Find the line TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=XXXX and set it to 4096.
- Preserving high detail: Whenever you adjust display options within the simulator, FSX may revert this setting to 1024. Consider using a freeware tool or manual edits to maintain 4096 over multiple sessions.

Comments on Buffalo Airways and Lockheed’s Turboprop
Buffalo Airways is famous for keeping iconic aircraft alive, including the Electra’s robust turboprop design. The L-188 helped pioneer the use of turbine propulsion in commercial aviation, offering better fuel efficiency and reliability in colder climates. By applying this HD repaint, enthusiasts can simulate the unique experience of flying one of the last enduring piston-era turboprop airliners.
Developed by Team FS KBT, the base model showcases a faithful rendition of the Electra’s aerodynamic structure and cockpit instruments. This repaint from Fabio Cabral enhances external surfaces and color schemes, capturing the vibrant Buffalo Airways livery in remarkable detail. Remember to fetch the freeware base file from the Fly Away Simulation mod library if you haven’t done so already. Enjoy your flights!
