Experience a refined rendition of Qantas’s iconic double-deck aircraft designed exclusively for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. This freeware release provides a complete package that integrates accurate modeling, distinctive airline markings, and carefully adapted cockpit designs for a seamless virtual flight. It includes the original base model and does not require any separate files.
Technical Adjustments and Visual Details
The development team, led by Camil Valiquette, made specific modifications to the model (MDL format) to ensure optimal performance in FS2004. Most animations are operational, including the deployment of thrust reversers and enhanced visibility of engine intake fans. The rotating fan animation has been deliberately removed to maintain consistent stability in the simulator. Notably, the model is built to replicate the A380’s distinctive airframe dimensions and extensive wingspan that facilitate long-haul services for Qantas.
Integrated Cockpit Configuration
Flight deck functionality is crafted using a specialized panel by A. Asensio. This layout incorporates key Airbus instrumentation, providing authentic readouts for various systems. The arrangement offers a balance between realism and user-friendliness, ensuring pilots can swiftly monitor essential information while replicating the complexities of a large airliner.
Installation Procedure
- Extract (unzip) the downloaded archive into your primary “Aircraft” folder within your FS2004 installation.
- Make sure all files retain their original folder structure to preserve correct panel and model references.
Initial Load Advisory
When you first launch the aircraft, a prompt may appear warning of potential incompatibility. Select “NO” to maintain full landing gear visibility. If “YES” is selected by mistake, the gear may not display. Simply revisit the option by reloading the aircraft and choosing “NO” to restore this important visual component.
Preferred Spot View Configuration
For a better external perspective, adjust your spot view to around 666 ft. This vantage point offers an optimal perspective on the entire fuselage, undercarriage, and wing surfaces without crowding the view.
Usage Guidelines
- This release is freely available for personal simulation use. Modification or commercial resale of any included materials is expressly forbidden.
- The Airbus panel integration is credited to A. Asensio, ensuring a dedicated rendition of key avionics.
- Mitsushi Yutaka from Project Open Sky provided crucial animations for the tilted landing gear and the lighting system.
- Mike Crosthwaite lent expertise through SDL Edit to refine performance parameters and visual accuracy.
These combined efforts from Camil Valiquette, A. Asensio, and contributing developers ensure that FS2004 pilots can enjoy the distinctive Qantas A380 experience in a robust and immersive manner.
