Upgrade - I noticed a cosmetic paint overbleed on one of the new objects - only when the plane was viewed from the outside at a specific angle and perspective... had to fix it nevertheless. OCD. As a bonus, added the launchbar to the nosegear that connects the plane to the catapult shuttle for a cat shot. It stands out pretty obviously on real Tomcats... now you have one here!

Editorial

It might shock you to hear this, but I’ve never had the chance to fly a Tomcat! I’ve never even had the chance to speak to an ex-Tomcat pilot. What I am, though, is someone who is deeply impressed with the range of performance that such an aircraft is obviously capable of providing. So, I decided to grab this mod and try it out for myself.

My X-Plane felt in rather serious need of some new hardware to try out. So, I thought, what better way to test it out than from the cockpit of one of the most respected pieces of military hardware?

A Grand Experience

This Tomcat is capable of flying in conformity with XP10 systems, which is pretty impressive. The developer has gone to great detail to make this work, and it really does showcase quite an impressive conversion from the developer. However, he also managed to create a document that helps you to further understand how to use this accordingly. Look into the Ready Room document that you get with this; it will do a lot to help you make sure you are managing the aircraft properly.

Disappointingly, there is no 3D panels. The developer was quite clear that they lacked the time to make this possible, so that’s fair enough. It would be nice to see one, but the work on every other part of the cockpit and the model itself makes up for that in some style.

One big addition has been the new launch-bar that sits near the nose-gear. This connects up the plane to the catapult shuttle for a cat shot. It’s a nice little touch to the detail which adds yet another layer to the realism that it showcases. Out of all the extras and additions, it’s one of the more specific and ambitious.

Overall I would be more than happy to recommend looking into picking up this particular piece of kit. It’s a nice addition to have, and its quirks makes it quite an interesting aircraft to fly. Certainly not for everyone, but a very nice touch to add into any X-Plane directory.
