This freeware package introduces a EuroConnect-liveried McDonnell Douglas MD-11F for FS2004, complete with a fully integrated base model by iFDG and an expertly crafted repaint by Tom van der Elst. Designed as a wide-cabin tri-jet, this aircraft offers advanced avionics, a spacious freighter layout, and sophisticated automated systems. Enthusiasts seeking realistic handling and accurate visuals will find this model particularly engaging. Below, several details are presented for a thorough understanding of its features and history.

Aircraft Background and Configuration
The MD-11 stands out as one of the most notable large tri-jets ever produced. It was built at the Douglas Products Division facility in Long Beach until February 2001, supported by a global network of suppliers and subcontractors. In addition to the freighter configuration, the manufacturer offered passenger, convertible, and combi variants. Moreover, an extended-range (ER) option was available to maximize operational flexibility across all models.
Freighter Capacity
Thanks to its wide cabin, the cargo-specific version accommodates significant payloads while still allowing operator-configurable layouts. As many sim pilots know, the full-freight design provides a substantial cargo deck plus dedicated underfloor baggage capacity. This arrangement not only boosts carrying capability but also simplifies loading via containerized and palletized systems.
Distinctive Aerodynamic Enhancements
The MD-11 integrates numerous aerodynamic refinements compared to older tri-jet designs. These include:
- Winglets and a reworked trailing edge to reduce drag.
- A refined, smaller horizontal tail that features integral fuel tanks.
- An extended tail cone to streamline airflow.
Such optimizations help minimize fuel consumption and enhance range, benefiting the freighter version as well as passenger variants.
Performance and Range
Under typical conditions, the standard MD-11 can fly around 7,630 statute miles (12,270 km) at a maximum takeoff weight of 602,500 pounds (273,290 kg). For operators demanding longer routes, the extended-range configuration reaches about 8,225 statute miles (13,230 km) by adding an auxiliary fuel tank and increasing the maximum takeoff weight to 630,500 pounds (285,990 kg). These figures allow global coverage for both cargo and passengers, making the MD-11 a versatile platform in commercial aviation.
Flexible Engine Options
This tri-jet accommodates three possible powerplants: the General Electric CF6-80C2, Pratt & Whitney 4460, or Pratt & Whitney 4462. Each engine type supplies strong thrust for extended flights, aligning with the aircraft’s long-haul targets and high cargo capacity requirements.
Flight Deck Technology
Pilots benefit from a modernized flight deck that includes six cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays, digital instrumentation, and integrated wind-shear detection systems. A dual flight management system helps manage fuel usage, and the dual digital autopilot (with fail operational capability) further reduces crew workload. Furthermore, the cockpit architecture was designed to accommodate two flight crew members rather than three, thanks to automated checklist and simplified system supervision. Interlinked wheel-and-column controls promote situational awareness and better crew coordination during critical phases of flight.

At 200 feet 10 inches (61.2 meters) in length, the MD-11 extends about 18.6 feet (5.66 meters) beyond its predecessor, the DC-10-30. That change translates to roughly 50 additional passenger seats or a corresponding increase in cargo space, depending on the selected configuration.
Installation Instructions
To install this add-on into FS2004, extract the entire contents into the simulator’s “Aircraft” directory. Any effect files included in this package should be moved to the “Effects” folder within FS2004. Then, key commands such as the “I” key can be used to activate relevant effects in the sim environment.
