Editorial

I’m always looking for ways to start making my flight simulation a little bit more challenging, and most of the time I’ll find that the best challenges lie within the new aircraft that are being created by the fans. Because they have the spare time to put in all the hardship, research, effort and detail required to make each aircraft feel truly unique, you can get a much more genuine flying experience from these mods.

I don’t know about you, but I like to pick up my flight simulator because I enjoy getting something that feels realistic, not a poor imitation!

So I was delighted when I came across this brilliant little package. By introducing a whole new avionics system, the flight can feel far more personalized to the aircraft that you are flying. If I had one criticism of flight simulators it would be how similar a specific class of aircraft can feel after you’ve used them all enough times – they all start to kind of blend in, for me. However, with the introduction of some fan-made content

I feel that this problem is alleviated pretty spectacularly; specific flight conditions and layouts become more familiar to me, for a start. It also creates a better flight atmosphere within the simulator, as you get to recognize all the little quirks of the aircraft that you are using, and how it actually responds to what you are asking – it’s this change in style that really makes an aircraft stand out.

Each of the aircraft included in here will give you an excellent sense of realism, and this is what attracted me to them in the first place; without the detail, what’s the point? This brings you not only a whole new set of avionics for the Airbus, but it also gives you fantastic textures.

The graphical change from the vanilla aircraft to this is pretty staggering, so if you are using a more up-to-date flight simulator and install these for an older model (perhaps on a laptop or second PC) then you can up the ante graphically with these improved textures.

Whilst it can be shallow to reduce the experience to how it looks – performance is far more important, obviously – it can be nice to know what you are getting something that really responds and looks as best it can given the engine it’s running on.

With these excellent updates for the Airbus A380, you really get that feeling – okay, it might be blown away by the graphics and textures available for FSX products and releases from 2015, but it looks fantastic given the capabilities it’s working with.

In fact, it’s more than passable if you put it up against some of the basic models from recent flight simulators – it uses every last detail that could possibly be put forward. Add in all of these nice little features like landing guards, emission effects and the reflection on the mirrors and you have a package that succeeds aesthetically and also practically.

With reference to Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and Qatar Air Airbus A380 6.22 Mb download. I have loaded into MS FS2004 which is fine. However when running the program and selecting this aircraft I seem to get 2 strange occurrences which having looked through all the documentation and on the Fly Away website, I cannot seem to find a resolution. As it seems to be extremely popular I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong.

1) when the engines are started it sounds like a prop plane and certainly not like the jet engines I would expect to hear.

2) In all the screen in particular in the cockpit and when viewing the aircraft from outside, there are 2 large-ish black blank blocks which appear, from in the cockpit, it seems to predominantly remove the instrumentation.

If you could assist I would be grateful,

Regards, Paul Brant
