FSX Ryans Creek Airfield Scenery

Ryans Creek Airfield (NZRC) scenery brings Stewart Island’s rugged southern coastline to life with refined terrain flattens, accurate excludes, and dense custom vegetation and objects that frame challenging approaches in changeable weather. Built for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, it requires VECTOR LANDCLASS for the intended ground textures and seamless placement.

This freeware package transforms Ryans Creek Airfield (NZRC) on Stewart Island, the southernmost inhabited point of New Zealand, into a more immersive environment for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The remote setting, just across the Foveaux Strait from Invercargill, is faithfully represented, featuring updated terrain details and custom object placements assembled by developers Lawrie Roache and Robin Corn.

Southern Tip Airfield Characteristics

Ryans Creek Airfield is known for its proximity to dense vegetation, hilly contours, and ever-changing weather conditions. The scenery in this release highlights the challenging approach profiles that pilots encounter in real-world conditions. The landscape enhancements underscore the lush greenery of Stewart Island, while carefully blending the coastline and nearby topographical features for a smooth transition in the simulator.

Compatibility and Tools

This add-on was originally developed for FSX SP2 environments, although it was tested without the Acceleration expansion installed. The authors recommend using VECTOR LANDCLASS (VLC) (a payware product) to match the intended ground textures and ensure proper alignment of vegetation. Flight1 Software’s Instant Scenery Object Placer integrated with Airport Facilitator X (AFX) provided advanced layering and airport data configuration. Through these utilities, developers enhanced flattens, excludes, and object positioning, refining an otherwise remote and rugged airstrip.

How to install this mod

FSX / P3D scenery
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place scenery in Addon Scenery

Create a folder under FSX\Addon Scenery\ containing scenery and texture sub-folders.
  3. Activate in Scenery Library

In FSX, go to Settings → Scenery Library → Add Area. Higher priority means it overrides lower entries for the same location.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.
