Overview of San Jose, Costa Rica (MROC).

This is my second set of AFCAD 2 files for FS2004. As stated earlier, MS did a great job on this new version of FS but their attempt at simulating gate areas and parking areas leaves a little to be desired and I won't even get into the fact that some places like Grand Cayman has trees with autumn leaves on it LOL

In this set we have all of the major airports in Central America. I did as good a job as possible to make it realistic. Granted, it won't be 100% perfect since the ramp and terminal areas MS designed may not match the real airport completely so some airports didn't have the physical space in the sim to provide room for all the real gates but for the most part it is very accurate down to gate numbers.

I've also modified the taxiways and lighting and in some cases the runways. Not all those features were done correctly so in a few airports lighting intensities were changed, taxiway lighting was altered, some aprons were slightly altered and some runway markings were altered to match their real world counterparts more closely. The result is what, I hope, will be a more enjoyable experience for people who choose to fly to this wonderful part of the world.

I have the privilege of flying in this area regularly and I love it very much. American Airlines is the dominant airline in this region and I've tried to assign the correct gate areas to AA for those who choose to fly American or use American AI aircraft. The rest of the gates are left numbered correctly but do not have specific airlines assigned so any airline can park there. If you know of your own personal favorite airline's gate locations feel free to assign it with the help of Lee Swordy's amazing AFCAD 2 program which made all this possible.

As a final note, I've also included the airports in my first set as this new AFCAD, like any program, is a learning process, I discovered a few new features and as such made some small modifications the some of the airports in the original Caribbean Part I release.

Next up is the remainder of the Caribbean including Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Antilles as well as Aruba, Curacao, and Venezuela.

Airports (re-released):

  • Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (MWCR)
  • Port-au-Prince, Haiti (MTPP)
  • Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands (MBPV)
  • Belize City, Belize (MZBZ)

Airports (new):

  • Guatemala City, Guatemala (MGGT)
  • Cancun, Mexico (MMUN)
  • San Pedro Sula, Honduras (MHLM)
  • Tegulcigalpa, Honduras (MHTG)
  • San Salvador, El Salvador (MSLP)
  • Managua, Nicaragua (MNMG)
  • Liberia, Costa Rica (MRLB)
  • San Jose, Costa Rica (MROC)
  • Panama City, Panama (MPTO)

Installation:

All you have to do is drop the folder in your FS2004 folder and it should place all files in the correct place. For those who like to move it manually please make sure all the files go into your Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\Scenery folder. You will know you put the files in the right place when you start FS and a window appears loading a new database.
