Experience a distinctive repaint of the renowned C-17 Globemaster, brought to you in a fictitious South African Air Force scheme that integrates the hallmark tail markings seen on United States Air Force versions. Developed by Brenden Corlet, this texture set incorporates the Ysterplaat Air Force Base station branding on the tail, tying it to Cape Town’s well-known military aviation hub. This add-on focuses on reproducing the aesthetics of aircraft 1431, showcasing subtle design cues that convey a credible SAAF livery. These textures are intended for use with the payware Area51 Boeing C-17A Globemaster in Microsoft Flight Simulator X.
Fictional SAAF Markings and Livery Features
This repaint includes a notional interpretation of a South African Air Force heavy-lift transport plane, blending a gray camouflage tone with the distinctive registration for Air Force Base Ysterplaat. The design draws inspiration from established USAF patterns, yet it incorporates localized lettering and numbering to complement a realistic SAAF theme. The result is a visually compelling portrayal for virtual pilots seeking expanded realism in military transport operations.

Aircraft Background and Designer Notes
The Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, originally produced by McDonnell Douglas for rapid military transport, remains central to several air forces worldwide for strategic missions and heavy-lift operations. Its wide cargo hold, efficient performance on short runways, and advanced mission management systems make it an ideal transport for challenging deployments. In this fictional Cape Town-based variant, Brenden Corlet integrates South African-specific markings onto the aircraft’s skin, following the core Area51 Simulations design parameters. Expect detailed rivet lines, panel specifications, and realistic color tones, ensuring faithful compatibility with the payware model’s geometry.
Installing the New Texture Set
The following steps outline how to add these textures to your payware package. Confirm you already own the Area51 C-17 Globemaster product before installation, as this download provides only the livery assets:
- Extract the texture folder from this ZIP file into the “Globemaster” directory within your FSX/SimObjects/Aircraft installation path.
- Open aircraft.cfg, and create a new [fltsim.x] entry referencing the texture folder name. Update “xx” to the appropriate sequence number.
