Old Stave Lake’s abandoned airfield scenery places a rustic backcountry strip at the lake’s north end, about 24 nm northeast of Pitt Meadows near Vancouver, and complements Ortho4XP mesh and Bing orthophotos for striking terrain detail in X-Plane 11/10. Requires 3D People, Handy Objects, Sea Life, FF, MisterX, World2XPlane, OpenSceneryX, and RD libraries.

Expert Overview

Old Stave Lake Scenery brings a fascinating, long-forgotten airfield into X-Plane 11, located 24 nm northeast of Pitt Meadows near Vancouver, Canada. This abandoned strip is ideally rendered using Ortho4XP’s mesh and orthophotos to capture the stunning surroundings, from the mountainous skyline to the rugged forested terrain. Its precise alignment with real-world geography creates a convincing virtual flying experience that showcases the remote charm of British Columbia.

Featuring 3D assets from various libraries (including 3D People, The Handy Object, and MisterX), this scenery’s handcrafted details stand out against the natural backdrops of the lake and its shorelines. Developed by Nils Lips, this mod seamlessly integrates into the X-Plane environment and highlights the area’s scenic beauty, making it a rewarding addition for flight simulator enthusiasts seeking an immersive bush-flying and short-strip landing challenge.

This mod was installed, tested and reviewed by Adam McEnroe for Fly Away Simulation. Adam is an FS mod expert. Read his bio here.

This is an old abandoned airfield at the north end of Stave Lake, 24 nm northeast of Pitt Meadows (near Vancouver, Canada).

Aerial view of the abandoned airfield. This scenery was designed to work with Ortho4XP mesh and orthophotos (Bing source). The strip itself will be there in the default terrain, but the author strongly recommends generating the tiles for this area, as this part of the world is absolutely stunning!

Requires the following libraries: 3D People Library (3D_PEOPLE_LIBRARY.ZIP), The Handy Object Library (THE_HANDY_OBJECTS_LIBRARY.ZIP), Sea Life Library (SEA_LIFE.ZIP), FF Library (extended version) (FF_LIBRARY_EXTENDED_LOD.ZIP), MisterX Library (MISTERX_LIBRARY.ZIP), World Model Library (WORLD2XPLANE.ZIP), OpenSceneryX (OPENSCENERYX.ZIP) and the RD_Library (RD_LIBRARY.ZIP).

Great work,

I use my Skyhawk as an ATV and found the animals in the bushes and even floated out and parked amongst the tents and people out on the water....
