X-Plane WDL-1B 1.0 Airship/Blimp

WDL-1B brings a 1960s non-rigid airship to X-Plane 11, modeled around a 197-foot envelope and twin Continental IO-360 power for relaxed cruising up to 58 knots. Four liveries, custom sounds, a custom 2D panel, reverse thrust, and autopilot support round out a smooth, controllable blimp experience.

X-Plane 11

The WDL-1B is a non-rigid airship built by the Westdeutsche Luftwerbung (WDL) Airship Company during the 1960s.

WDL-1B blimp Sparkasse livery in XP11.Information on this model of the airship is scarce, but it is 197 feet long and is powered by two Continental IO-360 engines, the same engines used in the GZ-20.

It can fly up to 58 knots and it is still operated today.

I have no idea how many were built if more then one.

Includes 4 liveries, custom sounds, and a custom 2D panel.

NOTE: when you first spawn into the simulator, remember to add a little blimp lift with the lever, otherwise the blimp will topple over. This is irritating but for now, I have no solution for this.

Reverse thrust is available. Press Shift-/ to engage reverse thrust. The blimp is configured so autopilot works. Add just enough blimp displacement to allow the blimp to float just off the ground then take off like a normal aircraft, just like the real airship.

How to install this mod

X-Plane add-on
  1. Extract the downloaded archive

Use 7-Zip (free) or WinRAR to extract the ZIP to a temporary folder. Don't install while still zipped — the simulator can't read inside ZIP files.
  2. Place per readme

X-Plane add-ons go into Aircraft/ (planes), Custom Scenery/ (airports, mesh), or Resources/plugins/ (plugins).
  3. Restart X-Plane

Close X-Plane completely and relaunch. The new content loads automatically.
  4. Always read the included readme

Every mod ships with a readme.txt or README file. It tells you exactly where files go, what dependencies are needed, and any quirks specific to this add-on.

I am interested in purchasing a download for a Lockheed Martin Hybrid Airship for X-Plane.

Could I pay someone to build that?
